Location: Midlands preferred, with regular travel throughout the UK

FTR Visuals is a specialist visualisation consultancy supporting planning, landscape, infrastructure, renewable-energy and property projects across the UK. We help clients understand, communicate and evidence the visual impact of change through high-quality survey data, verified visualisations, 3D modelling and technical visual outputs.
This role is central to the quality, credibility and professional value of our work. As a Geospatial Surveyor, you will provide the accurate spatial data, survey control and site intelligence that underpin our visualisation outputs. Your work will help clients, consultants, planning authorities and wider project teams make better-informed decisions, reduce project risk and build confidence in the evidence used to support development proposals.
Role purpose
We are looking for a practical, technically capable and professionally minded Geospatial Surveyor with experience in topographical surveying, terrestrial laser scanning and survey data processing. The role combines independent fieldwork, technical judgement, data quality assurance and close collaboration with photographers, visualisers, project managers and external consultants.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working across varied sites throughout the UK, taking responsibility for survey planning and delivery, and ensuring that every output is accurate, traceable, well-structured and appropriate for its intended use.
Key responsibilities
Survey planning and site delivery
- Plan and undertake topographical surveys, terrestrial laser-scanning surveys and supporting site measurements in line with project briefs, required tolerances and agreed deliverables.
- Establish, verify and document survey control using appropriate GNSS, total-station and control-network methods.
- Capture accurate reference points for photography, verified visualisations, photomontages, 3D modelling and related visual evidence.
- Identify incomplete, inconsistent or potentially inaccurate data before leaving site, taking action to resolve issues at source wherever possible.
- Complete site records, equipment checks, field notes, risk assessments, method statements and access documentation to a professional standard.
Data processing, quality assurance and deliverables
- Process, register, clean and quality-check survey and point-cloud data to ensure outputs are accurate, complete and fit for purpose.
- Prepare clear and properly structured deliverables, including topographical drawings, coordinates, point-cloud outputs, survey reports, control information and supporting technical records.
- Maintain traceability between field capture, survey control, processed data and final visualisation outputs.
- Apply sound judgement on coordinate systems, levels, transformations, accuracy, tolerances and metadata so that project teams understand the reliability and limitations of the data.

Collaboration and client value
- Work closely with photographers, visualisers, project managers and external consultants to ensure survey information directly supports the creation of robust, defensible and visually compelling outputs.
- Translate technical survey requirements into clear, practical advice for non-survey specialists.
- Support project teams by identifying risks, opportunities and data gaps early, helping to reduce rework, delays and uncertainty for clients.
- Represent FTR Visuals professionally on site, demonstrating competence, reliability and care in all interactions.
Essential skills and experience
- Practical experience conducting topographical surveys and terrestrial laser-scanning surveys in real project environments.
- Competence using GNSS, total-station and terrestrial laser-scanning equipment, including the establishment and verification of survey control.
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, levels, survey accuracy, tolerances and error management.
- Experience processing, registering and quality-checking survey data, including point-cloud data.
- Ability to produce clear survey deliverables suitable for use by visualisation, planning, design and consultancy teams.
- Good working knowledge of relevant survey software such as AutoCAD, Cyclone, ReCap, Trimble Business Center or comparable platforms.
- Strong attention to detail, a methodical approach to fieldwork and the confidence to make sound technical decisions on site.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain survey issues and data limitations clearly to colleagues and clients.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays when required.
Desirable experience and qualifications
- Experience supporting verified visualisations, photomontages, landscape and visual impact assessment, planning submissions or 3D modelling workflows.
- Experience in measured-building surveys, infrastructure, property, renewable-energy, landscape, construction or environmental projects.
- Practical understanding of photography workflows, particularly landscape, architectural, technical or panoramic photography.
- Experience with drone surveying, photogrammetry, mobile mapping, BIM, GIS or reality-capture workflows.
- A relevant surveying, geomatics, geospatial, civil engineering or construction-related qualification.
- Professional membership, active progression towards membership or demonstrable alignment with recognised professional bodies such as RICS, CICES or TSA.
- A CSCS card and current Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work certificate.
