BUILD YOUR SURVEYING CAREER FROM THE GROUND UP
Are you an experienced land or measured building surveyor who enjoys combining technology, practical problem-solving and time on site?
Take ownership of varied topographical, engineering and measured building surveys—from fieldwork to finished output. Using modern equipment and software, you will turn accurate spatial data into information that helps clients design, develop and manage real places.
The Geospatial Surveyor role is suitable for a surveyor who can deliver routine work with limited or no supervision and wants to develop technically, professionally and commercially.
At Senior Surveyor level we would expect someone who is motivated to produce the highest quality work and lead by example, mentoring other members of the team.
Our Geospatial Surveyor graded competence framework provides a clear structure for recognising growing capability and taking on more complex projects and responsibility.
WHY JOIN MET GEOENVIRONMENTAL LTD?
No two projects are the same: one day you could be mapping a development site with GNSS and a total station; the next, surveying a complex building for coordinated plans, elevations and sections. As your experience grows, you may also work on monitoring, setting-out, laser scanning and control.
You will work alongside land surveyors, measured building surveyors, utility surveyors, geophysicists and GIS specialists. This gives you opportunities to learn across related disciplines and contribute to integrated projects that go beyond a single survey technique.
Our work takes us to a wide range of sites and sectors across the UK. Travel and overnight stays are a regular part of the role, but they also bring the opportunity to work in different environments, solve new problems and build broad practical experience.
What You Will Do
- Plan, collect, process and present accurate spatial data, choosing the right survey methods and delivering clear outputs to our technical, quality, safety and environmental standards.
- Interpret and discuss client requirements, project briefs and survey specifications.
- Undertake 2D and 3D topographical surveys using total stations, GNSS and spirit levels.
- Carry out measured building surveys to produce coordinated floor plans, elevations and sections tied to appropriate control networks.
- Collect the site detail needed to produce accurate, useful survey information for clients and project teams.
- Process survey data using LSS and prepare detailed drawings and plans in AutoCAD.
- Check your data and drawings carefully and deliver work to the required standard and programme.
- Maintain surveying equipment and complete routine checks and calibration requirements.
- Communicate progress, site conditions and technical issues clearly to colleagues and managers.
- Work safely and responsibly in accordance with company procedures, current legislation and environmental requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

BUILD A CAREER
This is not a role in which you are expected to stand still.
You will be supported to develop through practical project experience, technical training, feedback and increasing responsibility.
Progression through our Geospatial Surveyor grades is based on demonstrated competence. As your capability grows, you can take on more technically demanding surveys, greater project ownership and opportunities to support less experienced colleagues.
Depending on your strengths and ambition, this can provide a route towards Senior Surveyor, technical specialism, project coordination, quality and training responsibilities or survey management.
We also support relevant qualifications, professional membership and development through the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.
