Waterman is looking for a Geotechnical Consultant or Senior Consultant to join our growing Infrastructure & Environment team

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong geotechnical professional with good UK experience across ground investigation, earthworks and geotechnical design.

The role offers a varied mix of office-based technical work and site activities, working across a range of infrastructure and development projects throughout the South East.

The Role

You will work across the full geotechnical project lifecycle, from ground investigation and specification through to interpretation, design and reporting. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, managing and undertaking elements of ground investigation and site works.
  • Spending regular periods on site, typically up to 2–3 days per week, with occasional short periods of full-time site work across the South East.
  • Preparing and contributing to ground investigation specifications and earthworks specifications.
  • Scheduling and coordinating geotechnical testing and interpreting laboratory and field results.
  • Reviewing and interpreting ground investigation logs and factual data.
  • Preparing and contributing to Ground Investigation Reports (GIRs/GDRs) and interpretive geotechnical reports.
  • Undertaking geotechnical assessments and analysis to support project design.
  • Developing and reviewing earthworks designs, including cut and fill assessments and earthworks strategies.
  • Using geotechnical modelling software such as PLAXIS to undertake analysis and support design solutions.
  • Working collaboratively with civil, structural, environmental and other engineering disciplines.
  • Supporting project managers and senior colleagues with technical delivery, programming and client requirements.
  • Contributing to technical reports, proposals and tenders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
