Geotechnical Engineer (Asset Protection)

Acciona Agua UK is currently delivering a flagship project for Thames Water, supporting the development and improvement of London's water infrastructure. As part of the continued delivery of this major project, we are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer (Asset Protection) to join the project team.
This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile infrastructure project, providing specialist geotechnical and asset protection expertise to help ensure that existing infrastructure, utilities and operational assets are protected throughout the design and construction phases.
The Role
As a Geotechnical Engineer (Asset Protection), you will provide technical support, review and assurance across engineering and construction activities that have the potential to impact existing assets, infrastructure, utilities, structures and operational facilities. Working closely with the wider project, design and construction teams, you will help identify, assess and manage geotechnical and construction-related risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical and asset protection advice to project, engineering and construction teams.
- Review engineering designs, technical reports, calculations and construction methodologies.
- Assess the potential impact of construction activities on existing assets, structures and utilities.
- Support the identification and implementation of appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Review temporary works designs and construction proposals from contractors and designers.
- Support monitoring, inspection and technical assurance activities throughout construction.
- Liaise with designers, contractors, consultants, clients and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews, risk workshops and technical assurance processes.
- Assist in resolving engineering and technical issues arising during project delivery.
- Support compliance with project specifications, industry standards and client requirements.
- Prepare and review technical reports, engineering documentation and technical submissions.
- Provide technical input into the management and protection of existing infrastructure throughout construction.

Essential Requirements
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
- Experience working on major infrastructure, utilities, water, rail or civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and construction methods.
- Experience reviewing technical designs, reports and engineering documentation.
- Knowledge of excavation, foundations, retaining structures, temporary works and ground movement risks.
- Understanding of asset protection and construction risk management principles.
- Ability to interpret technical reports, drawings and engineering calculations.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership.
- MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
- Previous experience working on Thames Water projects.
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification.
- SMSTS qualification.
- CSCS Card.
- Experience using PLAXIS, WALLAP or equivalent geotechnical analysis software.
- Experience with instrumentation and monitoring systems.
- EUSR Water Hygiene (Blue Card) and/or Thames Water Passport.
