Job Description

ALTEN is supporting one of the UK's largest and most complex nuclear new build programmes, Hinkley Point C (HPC). We are seeking a talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our engineering team in Bristol and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure and nuclear construction activities.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will provide geotechnical expertise throughout the design, assessment, construction and operation phases of major civil engineering works. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a nationally significant project while developing your career within a leading engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver geotechnical engineering assessments and technical studies for major infrastructure projects.
  • Review and interpret ground investigation data, laboratory testing and geological reports.
  • Support foundation design, earthworks, retaining structures and slope stability assessments.
  • Prepare geotechnical calculations, technical reports and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural and construction teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
  • Review contractor submissions and provide technical recommendations.
  • Identify and manage geotechnical risks, ensuring compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and stakeholder discussions.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Experience working in geotechnical engineering within infrastructure, energy, nuclear, rail or major construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering and ground investigation techniques.
  • Experience using relevant geotechnical software and analytical tools.
  • Ability to prepare and review technical reports and engineering calculations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of UK engineering standards and regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (ICE, GeolSoc or equivalent).
  • Experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence or energy.
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes and UK design standards.
  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure programmes.
