(Engineer / Senior Engineer / Expert)
Role Summary
The Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineer delivers ground engineering, contaminated land, and geoenvironmental assessments to support infrastructure and complex project environments. Work includes ground investigations, modelling, risk assessment, and integrated design development with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Production of geotechnical desk studies, ground investigation scopes, and testing specifications.
- Management and interpretation of ground investigation data and factual reports.
- Development of ground models using digital tools (e.g., OpenGround, Leapfrog).
- Derivation of geotechnical parameters and development of numerical models (e.g., PLAXIS) for soil‑structure interaction.
- Technical input to safety‑critical designs, including review of deliverables and integration of site‑specific solutions.
- Delivery and oversight of work packages with engineering partners and suppliers.
- Collaboration with structural, civil, hazards, hydrogeology, environmental, and other disciplines.
- Participation in design reviews, assurance activities, and resolution of engineering queries.
- Compliance with codes, standards, quality requirements, and CDM obligations.
- Authoring and reviewing technical reports, risk assessments, remediation strategies, and supporting documentation.
- Support for continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
Work Experience
Experience Levels
Engineer
- Degree‑qualified; working toward Chartered Engineer or Chartered Geologist status.
- Experience in geotechnical design for foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, slopes, and buried structures.
- Familiar with ground investigation, data interpretation, and geotechnical analysis.
Senior Engineer
- Strong experience delivering geotechnical design across regulated sectors.
- Leads ground investigation planning, modelling, and integrated design development.
- Coordinates multidisciplinary interfaces and manages technical quality.

Expert / SME
- Chartered with extensive experience in contaminated land, environmental risk, remediation, and geoenvironmental engineering.
- Provides specialist advice, independent reviews, and technical governance.
- Leads high‑risk or complex geoenvironmental assessments and regulatory engagement.
Skills Required
- Geotechnical Design — foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, slopes, buried structures.
- Ground Investigation — scoping, supervision, interpretation, and factual reporting.
- Ground Modelling — OpenGround, Leapfrog, and development of site‑specific ground models.
- Numerical Modelling — PLAXIS or similar tools for soil‑structure interaction.
- Geoenvironmental Assessment — contaminated land, human health risk, controlled waters, remediation.
- Environmental Legislation — permitting, waste classification, remediation requirements.
- Technical Documentation — reports, risk assessments, strategies, and substantiation.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination — working with hazards, structural, civil, hydrogeology, and environmental teams.
- Engineering Partner Management — oversight of external engineering deliverables.
- Risk Assessment — geotechnical and environmental risk identification and mitigation.
- Digital Engineering Tools — GIS, modelling software, and data management platforms.
- Stakeholder Engagement — communication with regulators, suppliers, and project teams.
- Leadership — mentoring, technical oversight, and decision‑making (Senior/Expert levels).
