Job Description

Position Description

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Geotechnical Specialist – Geotechnical Data & Rock Mass Modelling. This role reports to the Geotechnical Lead – AME and works with Geotechnical Managers, Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Design, and site-based Geotechnical and Geological Teams.

This role is responsible for the stewardship of all geotechnical data and rock mass models across the Barrick AME mine sites. It provides technical guidance to site teams on geotechnical data collection practices, consolidates all validated data into a secure central repository, and produces the factual reports required for engineering decision-making. The role also develops robust, annually updated rock mass models to support mine design and operational planning.

You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets and with our teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner towards achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain geotechnical data collection guidelines for use across all AME sites.
  • Train site-based teams in sound and consistent data collection practices aligned with the guidelines.
  • Consolidate core logging, window mapping, laboratory testing, and field observation data into a secure central database (data collection is performed by site teams).
  • Analyse geotechnical data to verify validation status, identify inconsistencies, and provide actionable feedback to sites to resolve validation issues.
  • Produce annual factual data reports for each site, demonstrating data completeness and validation, and providing the geotechnical parameters required for design and operational decision-making.
  • Develop and update annual Mining Rock Mass Models for each mining area to capture the geotechnical parameters required for engineering design.
  • Ensure all data management, reporting, and modelling activities comply with relevant standards, codes, and internal quality processes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
