I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

RELOCATING TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT
The beautiful Isle of Wight: One of the UK's top holiday destinations, steeped in history and heritage; home to the world-famous Cowes Week yachting event, The Isle of Wight Festival etc. and it was even home to Queen Victoria once upon a time. But regardless of its many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a Heritage Coast that stretches for miles, our Island is not just a pretty face – it’s a great place to live, and to bring up a family too!
Property is significantly cheaper than in many other areas of the UK, your kids can run free (safe in the knowledge that there’s very little in the way of crime here), and there’s plenty to keep everyone occupied, whether it’s sport, music, culture… you name it, we’ve got it; and the moment you step off the ferry, there’s nothing like that immediate and profound feeling that you’ve left the stresses of mainland life far, far behind… (But we’re only a short ferry ride away from the mainland if that’s your thing)

GKN Aerospace are one of The Island's largest employers, offering amazing career opportunities, unrivalled in most other Island-based companies. We're very much part of the bigger "GKN Picture", but very proud of our over-100 year history here on The Island, and celebratory of the fact that we do things a little bit differently down here.
We very much welcome applications from people currently based on the mainland, and are happy to offer our support with relocation.
So, why don’t you come and join us? Many of us have already made the move. And we don’t regret a thing.
