Join us as Group Lead & Head of Site at our Shoeburyness site, where you’ll work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.
Key Responsibilities
As Group Lead & Head of Site, you’ll oversee the leadership and availability of Shoeburyness facilities, ensuring they meet the demands of:
- The Weapons Services Integrated Delivery Team
- Wider UK Defence business needs
Key Duties:

Leadership & Representation:
- Act as focal point for the enablement of delivery at Shoeburyness on behalf of the Operations Director
- Represent QinetiQ locally in health & safety, environment, security, and as the Providing Manager signatory

Compliance & Safety Standards:
- Ensure all activities align with QinetiQ policies and external regulations
- Maintain a Safe System of Work for all trials and activities

Facility & Operational Oversight:
- Develop and implement strategies to sustain and grow the site (people, equipment, technology, processes)
- Drive continuous improvement in agility, capacity, efficiency, and quality
- Manage budgets and financial oversight

Strategy & Collaboration:
- Translate Land & Weapons strategy and business objectives into practical implementation
- Work closely with IDT (Integrated Delivery Teams) and the wider business

Essential Experience & Qualifications
Experience Required:
- Extensive experience in an environmental test domain with a record of achievement
- Operational leadership experience, ideally managing teams in high-hazard facilities or environments
- Proven ability to develop and manage teams in a matrix, technical environment
- Capability in Process Improvement & Change Management
- Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation, with a commitment to promoting compliance
Additional Desirables:
- Experience with TERP (Test, Evaluation, Research and Proof) Range Operations
Qualifications:
- A first degree in Science, Operations, or Engineering, or an equivalent qualification

About QinetiQ Shoeburyness
QinetiQ Shoeburyness is a significant test and evaluation facility specialising in:
- Defence and security technologies
- Environmental Testing (including ordnance, explosives, and related systems)
The site prioritises compliance with environmental regulations to minimise ecological impact.
Working Arrangements
- 37-hour workweek, fully on-site
