Contract: Permanent Opportunity

Pertemps are recruiting for a Glass Operative to join a well-established specialist glass manufacturer based in Oldbury. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing production team, working with high-quality fire-rated glass products in a busy manufacturing environment.

Working as part of the production department, you will be responsible for operating glass processing machinery, cutting and preparing glass to specification, and ensuring products meet quality standards before dispatch. This position would suit someone with previous experience within the glass industry who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in producing quality work.

Key Duties

  • Operating various glass cutting and processing machinery.
  • Setting up and adjusting glass feeding, flow, and forming equipment.
  • Cutting glass and mirrors to specified sizes and shapes using measuring and cutting tools.
  • Reading patterns, drawings, and specifications to accurately mark and prepare glass.
  • Inspecting glass and identifying defects to achieve the most effective cuts.
  • Breaking away excess glass using hand tools and specialist equipment.
  • Smoothing, polishing, and finishing glass edges using sanding and polishing machinery.
  • Operating furnaces to produce toughened glass products.
  • Sandblasting glass surfaces in line with production requirements.
  • Loading and unloading stillages for storage and dispatch.
  • Monitoring stock levels and recording batch numbers and production information.
  • Completing quality inspections and maintaining production standards.
  • Adhering to all health and safety procedures and company policies.
  • Supporting the wider production team as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working within the glass industry.
  • Good understanding of glass production techniques and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read instructions, drawings, and technical information.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently to production targets.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to work.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety, particularly regarding manual handling.
  • Ability to identify problems and contribute to effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification advantageous but not essential.
  • Previous experience operating CNC machinery advantageous but not essential.
  • Relevant manufacturing or production qualifications desirable.

Working Hours

  • Full-time permanent position.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Monday to Friday.
  • Overtime may be available depending on production requirements.
