Orbia Fluor and Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is hiring a Global Business Development Manager to be based at Thornton Science Park, Cheshire, UK.

Hybrid role with up to 25% of domestic and international travel.

FTC for 18 months

Main Purpose

The Global Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and developing strategic growth opportunities in adjacent markets beyond the current medical propellant offering, with a primary focus on the pharmaceutical, life sciences, and agrochemical sectors. The role will broaden the business offering of the world-renowned ZEPHEX brand by leveraging Orbia Fluor Energy Materials' core strengths, including GMP manufacturing capabilities, fluorine chemistry expertise, high-purity fluorinated chemicals, medical and environmental regulatory know-how, and a secure, integrated fluorine supply chain.

The successful candidate will proactively identify emerging market trends, customer needs, and business opportunities, evaluate their strategic fit, and develop robust business cases to support investment and portfolio decisions. Working closely with commercial, technical, manufacturing, regulatory, and strategy teams, they will coordinate cross-functional assessments, build external partnerships where appropriate, and provide the analytical and commercial foundation for new growth initiatives.

The role is primarily focused on opportunity identification, strategic evaluation, and business case development. It will support the Business Unit Head in prioritizing growth opportunities and preparing initiatives for execution, enabling the business to expand its portfolio and create new sources of sustainable growth.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new business opportunities in adjacent markets within the pharmaceutical, life sciences, and agrochemical sectors, leveraging the business unit's core capabilities.
  • Develop robust commercial and strategic business cases to support investment decisions, including market attractiveness, competitive positioning, technical feasibility, financial modelling, and strategic fit.
  • Research market trends, emerging technologies, customer needs, and collaborative developments to identify new avenues for growth.
  • Build and maintain a strong external network to continuously gather market intelligence, challenge assumptions, and identify potential partnerships and growth opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of business proposals, partnership concepts, and opportunity assessments, working closely with commercial, technical, manufacturing, regulatory, finance, and legal teams.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to assess technical, operational, regulatory, and commercial feasibility of new business opportunities.
  • Present strategic recommendations and business cases to senior management to support portfolio development and investment decisions.
  • Support the Business Unit Head in developing and maintaining a strategic growth opportunity pipeline and prioritizing initiatives for execution.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in business/engineering/sciences

Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • 7+ years of experience in new business development, product management, strategic marketing, technology commercialization, innovation management, or a similar commercial role within the pharmaceutical, life sciences or specialty chemicals industries.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying, validating, and developing new business opportunities, products, technologies, or partnerships from concept through to investment recommendation.
  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical and/or life sciences value chain, including customer needs, regulatory requirements, manufacturing processes, and commercial dynamics. Experience in adjacent specialty chemical markets is advantageous.
  • Naturally curious, entrepreneurial, and self-driven, with a passion for discovering new opportunities through direct engagement with customers, industry experts, and external partners.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage senior technical, commercial, and scientific stakeholders both inside and outside the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and commercial acumen, with the ability to translate market insights into compelling business cases and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership through clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Comfortable working independently in an ambiguous environment, taking ownership of opportunity discovery while coordinating effectively across multiple functions.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to engage customers, partners, conferences, and industry experts.
