Description

Purpose

The Global Communications & External Engagement Manager will apply their expertise in creating powerful content for Women for Women International’s channels, including UK website and email marketing. This role will also manage public relations, external partnerships and lead on events- planning globally for the organization.

This role is split with a 60% focus on Global Communications which includes external engagement and 40% dedicated to UK channel specific communications, working directly with the Director, Global Communications & External Relations and closely with the UK Head of Marketing and Communications respectively.

The role is to plan, prepare and execute communications activity, lead on press, user journeys, blogs and campaigns that support the charity's fundraising, brand and funder activities.

The role will directly contribute to the aims and objectives of the charity in line with organisation-wide priorities working as a key member of the Global Communication team.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement

  • Work closely with colleagues across the global organisation to identify and maximise all opportunities to meet objectives of the Global Revenue Strategy (GRS) through communications, external engagement and campaign execution.
  • Identify, secure and manage relationships with third parties, including press and media, to support the strategy, particularly around the identification and acquisition of pro bono support from agencies and experts in Communications and Marketing.
  • Ensure the effective flow of information across Departments and Supporter Country Offices so teams fully support others’ plans and priorities, the communication plans are understood and fully supported throughout the organisation, and the charity’s strategic plans, brand, ethics, and operations are understood by agencies and supporters.
  • Effectively engage with internal teams, external partners, press contacts and stakeholders to maximise the impact of digital initiatives and stay informed about industry trends and best practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from country offices to support the production of communications assets, ensuring alignment with organisational messaging and branding standards.

Delivery

Global External Engagement: 40%

  • Identify and execute thought leadership and media opportunities in support of WfWI’s Global Revenue Strategy, including developing content to pitch to media such as press releases, Op Eds and thought leadership pieces to amplify the impact of WfWI’s programs
  • Manage and build media and influencer relations, including and active database across WfWI Supporter Country Offices and Regional hubs (Africa, SWANA, North America).
  • Proactively identify Ambassadors and Champions in alignment with WfWI’s mission as well as support content development to engage existing celebrity Ambassadors and influencers.
  • Monitor relevant conversations in the news
  • Facilitate outreach campaigns and pitch/catch media inquiries
  • Develop and manage events strategies and plans for the organization
  • Develop thought leadership plans to raise visibility at external events, including participation of WfWI spokespersons in sector-specific events
  • Work closely with colleagues from Country Offices and Regional Hubs to support external engagement activities and the production of communications assets (video, pictures, case studies).

  • Lead the production of editorial content for the Women for Women International’s UK website, blog, email and other owned channels, including content for campaigns, working closely with the Sr. Manager Global Brand & Communications
  • Identify current trends and insight into emerging trends to prioritise opportunities for Women for Women International to position and communicate our work (across all content, audiences and channels) and realise opportunities to increase market reach and charitable impact.
  • Responsible for first round of approvals for all press releases, email and print communications related to UK channels.
  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications to develop project plans for fundraising and communications campaigns and a quarterly content strategy for Individual Giving fundraising.
  • Lead on the production and delivery of compelling and impactful copy for Individual Giving fundraising acquisition and retention campaigns, including crisis response content.
  • Support production and delivery of marketing emails via our email marketing platform (Marketing Cloud) and reporting on results (i.e. open rates, click throughs).
  • Support the cultivation of supporters through targeted email journeys, including journey planning, content development and audience segmentation.

Strategic Planning, Evaluation and Reporting - 10%

  • In partnership (support) with the Head of Marketing & Communications and Global Communications Director & External Relations, produce annual and three-year plans and budgets
  • Support in the ongoing monitoring and reporting of KPIs to ensure we are meeting targets.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team around expected expenditure and reforecasting.
  • Manage and report on campaign budgets, prepare reports and updates for the Exec Team, and for the Head to present to the Board and Board committees as requested throughout the campaign period.
  • Develop and own goals and performance metrics for media campaigns; monitor regularly to understand effectiveness of strategy and creative, making recommendations for continuous improvement

Service Delivery - 10%

  • Manage collaboration with UK fundraising teams to deliver on all communications requirements for events and strengthen our Ambassador network and for grant-funders, major donors and corporate partners to exceed their expectations of communications support and ensure future funding:
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for funders and corporate partners (where appropriate) who require visibility; work closely with our media consultant to identify press opportunities to support communications objectives.
  • Ensure that our grant funders are visible and recognised across our website and social media channels (where appropriate).
  • Feed into annual and quarterly reports for funders with a focus on communications objectives.
  • Work with the Global Corporate Partnerships team to support on innovative ways to engage current and prospective brands in our communications, particularly around flagship campaigns like Women’s History Month.

Line Management – 10%

  • Provide inspiring leadership to the Communications Officer, with regular and individualistic support, setting agreed objectives and supporting their delivery.
  • Supervise the PR consultant to deliver agreed objectives around press coverage and PR services.

Other

  • Be responsible for personal learning and development and participate in supervision, training, and meetings as required.
  • Ensure that you are up to date with, and well informed of, sector developments and competitor activity to inform our strategies and ensure our campaigns are cutting edge and innovative, as well as being sector best practice and within the specific legal framework of the territory of operation.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as required.
  • Travel three to four times a year for up to one week at a time; no travel to country programme offices/high risk locations required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Person Specification

Required

  • Existing and ongoing right to work in the UK and the ability to maintain without sponsorship by Women for Women International.
  • Passion for social Issues: Genuine passion for global issues, women's empowerment, human rights, and a keen interest in understanding corporate partners' industries and their potential alignment with the organization's mission.
  • Pitching Experience crafting pitches to media and converting them to earned media coverage
  • PR and media relations Experience working in PR and media relations, with expertise in cultivating media relationships across US and the UK as well as has existing contacts in top tier outlets like The Guardian, BBC, NPR etc.
  • Email marketing expertise: Proficiency in managing email marketing campaigns, including creating marketing emails in platforms like Marketing Cloud, creating donor journeys and analyzing performance metrics to optimise engagement.
  • Event management experience: Experience managing events including logistics and event planning, including concepting events such as panel discussions, roundtables, fundraiser salons etc.
  • Management: Experience of being responsible for this function and holding the role of manager with experience of managing, developing and inspiring staff with confidence, compassion and a passion for personal development
  • Effective communication: Excellent written and oral communication, capable of inspiring and motivating others. Skilled in composing, editing, and proofreading fundraising and marketing materials across various channels.
  • IT Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including experience with software such as PowerPoint, Word, Teams and Content Management Systems (e.g. Drupal), Email Marketing tools
  • Editorial content strategy: Experience in crafting editorial content strategies and copywriting for websites, blogs, with a focus on aligning content with organizational objectives and key external events.
  • Stakeholder management: Demonstrated track record of building and managing successful relationships with diverse internal and external global stakeholders and working with global teams across geographies and cultures.
  • Organisational skills: Strong ability to prioritise tasks with attention to detail, maintaining accuracy even under pressure.
  • Ability to work under pressure: Calm under pressure, proficient at multitasking, and managing projects within tight deadlines and small budgets.
