Global Engineering Director – Risk Technology
Overview
We are seeking a senior engineering leader to take ownership of the technical direction, engineering quality, and operational resilience of a critical Equities Risk technology platform within a global financial services organisation.
The role combines hands-on technical leadership, people management, and platform-level accountability. You will be responsible for driving the engineering strategy, modernising and scaling the platform, improving engineering standards, and ensuring the continued delivery of robust, secure and highly resilient technology solutions.
You will work closely with senior technology, product and business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into a clear technical roadmap and deliver high-quality solutions in a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Set the overall engineering vision and technical direction for a strategically important technology platform.
- Take ownership of architectural direction, technical decision-making and the long-term evolution of the platform.
- Lead a global team of engineers, creating a culture focused on high standards, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Drive the delivery of major technology change, including platform enhancement, modernisation and simplification.
- Champion strong engineering practices across development, testing, deployment, security and production support.
- Improve platform reliability, scalability and operational performance through effective engineering and risk management practices.
- Partner with technology, product and business leaders to understand priorities and turn them into practical technical solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to senior engineers, helping develop the next generation of engineering leaders.

Requirements
- Significant experience leading engineering functions within financial services, trading technology or another technically complex environment.
- A strong software engineering foundation, with the technical depth to engage in architecture, system design and complex engineering discussions.
- Experience working with large-scale, distributed and highly available systems; experience with Java or similar technologies would be advantageous.
- A track record of leading technology change, whether through platform transformation, modernisation, migration or large-scale engineering programmes.
- Experience managing and developing senior engineers and building effective, high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and the principles required to build reliable, secure and scalable production systems.
- Comfortable taking ownership of technical risk and making informed decisions where reliability, performance and delivery are critical.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, business and senior leadership teams.
- A pragmatic approach to technology leadership, balancing long-term engineering strategy with the commercial and operational needs of the business.
