Our story goes back more than 150 years, to the chilly southern coast of Scandinavia. From our early success in Sweden and Denmark, we’ve grown into the world’s leading specialist producer of plant-based oils, employing more than 4,000 people across the globe.

We work with our customers to make the products you love even better. The oils we produce go into making your chocolate extra-creamy or putting the crunch into your croissant. And it’s not just food — we work across industries to make products that are higher quality, healthier and better for the planet.

Everything we do is about Making Better Happen™.

This role can be based at either Aarhus, Hull or Karlshamn.

Internal job posting only: We are open to internal candidates’ applications from Zaandijk and Rotterdam.

About The Role

We are looking for a Global ESG Engineer to join AAK’s Global Operations team and help drive the implementation of our operational ESG strategy across our global manufacturing network.

As the technical ESG expert within Global Operations, you will translate AAK’s sustainability ambitions into practical engineering standards, measurable KPIs and improvement programmes. Your focus will be on identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, optimise water and waste, and improve the overall resource efficiency of our operations.

Working closely with Global Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Excellence, Procurement, Digital & IT, EHS, Sustainability and regional teams, you will develop consistent approaches to ESG performance, strengthen the quality of our data and support sites in delivering measurable environmental and financial benefits.

This is a hands-on, global role where you will combine technical expertise, data-driven insight and stakeholder management to create scalable solutions across AAK’s manufacturing network. You will also play an important role in developing digital ESG reporting capabilities and embedding continuous improvement into our operations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritise ESG improvement opportunities across AAK’s manufacturing network, with a focus on energy, carbon, water, waste and resource efficiency.
  • Co-develop and implement global engineering standards, technical specifications, methodologies and best practices that support consistent ESG performance.
  • Work with manufacturing sites to assess technical solutions, develop business cases and quantify the environmental, energy and financial benefits of improvement projects.
  • Translate global ESG targets into practical site-level roadmaps, KPIs, improvement projects and implementation plans.
  • Drive the deployment of energy monitoring, carbon tracking and digital ESG data solutions to improve data quality, transparency and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Global Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Excellence, Procurement, Digital & IT, EHS and Sustainability to embed ESG improvements into capital projects and daily operations.
  • Use operational data and performance analysis to identify trends, improvement opportunities and priorities across regions.
  • Track project progress, verify delivered benefits and share best practices and lessons learned across the global manufacturing network.
  • Support the development of consistent ESG reporting and data management processes, ensuring reliable information for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, ESG standards and regulatory developments, translating relevant changes into practical improvements for AAK’s operations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
