About the Role:
Grade Level (for internal use):
15
The Team:
Enterprise Solutions (ES) Technology is a powerful combination of world-class people and businesses with a shared mission and legacy of evolving markets and delivering for the most demanding customers in the world.
We are the catalyst to bring data, software, services, and expertise together to power the markets of the future. We drive growth through world-class execution, a growth mindset, and our unique expertise and passion for building innovative and connected solutions. We collaborate with our business line to drive business growth by focusing on execution of our joint product strategies. We ensure that we maximize business value while at the same time minimizing cost of ownership of our technology estate.
Responsibilities and Impact:
We are seeking a senior technology leader to partner closely with the Head of Technology for Enterprise Solutions in shaping the technology direction of a complex, regulated financial-services estate.
This is a hands-on principal engineer and architect role, not a pure governance or advisory architecture function. The role exists to ensure technology strategy is grounded in engineering reality, deep domain understanding, and operational outcomes.
You will work directly with the Head of Technology to shape and refine strategy, stress-testing ideas against engineering, regulatory, and operational constraints. You will engage closely with senior engineering leaders, platform teams, and product partners to turn strategy into real designs that can be built and run.
You will get involved early in complex or high-risk initiatives and step in when it matters most, including during major incidents and recovery efforts. A key part of the role is knowing when to push forward, when to simplify, and when to slow down or stop.
You will act as the engineering authority across Enterprise Solutions, leading primarily through influence rather than line management and the role carries broad responsibility for shaping architecture, design, and delivery decisions across multiple teams and domains.
You will balance long-term strategy with near-term delivery constraints, operational resilience, and regulatory expectations, and represent the technology direction with clients and senior stakeholders, explaining design choices and trade-offs clearly and credibly. Overall, this role strengthens the technology function by making strategy buildable, operable, and defensible.
What We’re Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications
- 25+ years of technology leadership experience in tier-1 banking, capital markets, or other highly regulated, mission-critical environments, with hands-on engineering expertise and the ability to code and engage deeply with technical teams.
- Proven expertise in enterprise architecture and technology strategy, including defining multi-year roadmaps, reference architectures, design standards, and architectural governance for complex financial services platforms.
- Strong technical depth in distributed, event-driven, data-intensive systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), security, resilience, regulatory compliance, and large-scale production environments.
- Deep domain knowledge of financial services and emerging technologies, including banking operations, regulatory reporting, data platforms, AI/analytics in production, and modern architectural paradigms such as agent-based systems, knowledge graphs, and semantic data models.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
