Who We Are
Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation-inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom-line impact.
To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.
What You'll Do
In today’s rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape, Legal has never been more strategic — or more technically complex. BCG is at a pivotal moment: transforming how we manage contracts, conflicts, and compliance, and how we apply agentic AI, data, and automation to reduce risk and unlock capacity at scale. We are committed to becoming a benchmark for excellence in professional services — not just in what we say, but in how we show up, what we measure, and how we continuously innovate.
Realising this vision demands leadership — someone who combines deep technical legal-technology expertise with the ability to drive cross-functional transformation, influence senior stakeholders, and translate strategic ambition into measurable outcomes.
As the Technical Area Lead (TAL) for Legal, you will be BCG’s foremost technical authority on legal technology. You will define how the Legal function technically operates, set the standards and architecture for how legal capability is built and delivered, and act as the connective tissue between legal strategy and technical execution across the firm — ensuring alignment across platforms, teams, and stakeholders.
You will lead with both breadth — spanning contract lifecycle management, conflict clearance, legal knowledge management, eDiscovery & litigation support, matter allocation & management, insurance, corporate elections, and agentic AI — and depth, setting the technical direction that underpins major legal technology programs.
You will oversee key decisions — including short-term delivery trade-offs vs. long-term capability build, platform and vendor selection, SDLC best-practices, and the establishment and regular review of technology and AI-quality observability and health metrics — while providing clarity and direction where priorities, ownership, or approaches are not well defined.
From a people-management perspective, you will lead legal technology chapter leads and specialists across Software Engineering & AI, SaaS Engineering, Quality Assurance, Data, and L2 Operations, managing external vendor relationships where relevant. You will work closely with the Legal Portfolio to ensure alignment between legal technology capability and BCG’s risk, compliance, and commercial priorities.
In partnership with the Legal Portfolio
- Create and deliver on the portfolio’s vision, strategy, and outcomes.
- Provide technical oversight and alignment across key legal platforms (e.g. contract lifecycle management, conflicts clearing, matter management, knowledge management) to deliver on the BCG legal technology strategy and execute against agreed direction, ensuring they operate cohesively across the ecosystem.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate emerging trends in legal technology, agentic AI, and automation to identify opportunities.
- Ensure that all legal technology programmes and chapter initiatives deliver on the portfolio’s risk, compliance, and commercial ambitions.
- Regularly assess the portfolio’s strategic approach against BCG’s global priorities and adjust in response to changing regulatory conditions and technological innovation.
- Foster close collaboration between Legal, Tech, Data, and business functions to ensure legal technology solutions are commercially aligned, technically sound, and aligned with enterprise and architectural principles.
- Act as a point of escalation when work spans multiple teams or systems, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
