Global Payroll & Benefits Manager
Location: London | 4 days a week
Salary: £85-95,000 + 15% bonus
Contract: Permanent
Middlemore has been retained by an established international professional services business to appoint a Global Payroll & Benefits Manager.
Following significant growth, the business is investing in its systems, infrastructure and ways of working. Payroll is an important part of that change, creating an opportunity for an experienced professional to bring international operations together and build a more consistent, effective function.
This role combines direct UK payroll ownership with a substantial international improvement agenda. You will need to enjoy delivering payroll as much as developing the processes, controls and relationships that make it work better.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the senior HR leader, you will take responsibility for UK payroll before progressively bringing overseas operations under coordinated oversight. International payroll currently operates through a mixture of local arrangements. Your task will be to understand what works, identify where change is needed and develop a practical approach to consolidation. You will have the opportunity to influence the future operating model, strengthen provider relationships and establish clear responsibilities across countries. Alongside this, wider investment in HR and Finance systems creates scope to improve payroll reporting, data quality and integration.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
