As Global Risk Manager

As Global Risk Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping and strengthening the SmartestEnergy Group’s global approach to risk management. Working closely with the DVP Global Risk, you’ll help develop and implement the Group’s risk management framework, providing independent oversight and ensuring consistent risk policies, standards and governance across our UK, US, Australian and Japanese operations. You’ll be a key link between Group Risk and our regional teams, while partnering with senior stakeholders across Commercial, Trading, Finance, Operations and Technology.

You’ll combine your commercial awareness, technical risk expertise and leadership skills to provide meaningful insight into market, credit, operational and enterprise risks, supporting informed decision-making and the sustainable growth of our energy trading and retail businesses. You’ll lead risk reporting and analytical activity, contribute to strategic risk and transformation initiatives, and drive improvements in data, systems and processes. Alongside this, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and develop Global Risk Analysts, promote a strong and consistent risk culture, and help shape the future of risk management across the Group.

What skills/experience do I need to be successful?

  • Strong risk management expertise, with a solid understanding of market, credit, operational and enterprise risk, including risk appetite, governance, controls, stress testing and risk reporting;
  • Energy trading and commercial knowledge, with an understanding of physical and financial energy markets, ideally including electricity, gas, environmental products or commodity trading;
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capability, with experience analysing risk exposures, developing meaningful insights and using tools such as Excel and Power BI, alongside risk management systems and trading platforms;
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex risk matters, provide effective challenge and influence senior stakeholders across commercial and corporate functions;
  • Leadership and continuous improvement experience, with a track record of managing or mentoring team members, leading projects and driving improvements to risk processes, systems, data quality and reporting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
