**Spoilage & Efficiency Improvement Specialist – PHC Packaging

Position Overview

This key role focuses on controlling and minimising process, line, and HFI (Heat-Fused Insert) spoilage in collaboration with Personal & Home Care (PHC) production plants across EMEA. Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing KPIs to track performance and progress.
  • Formulating action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Supporting Plant Managers in achieving efficiency, cost reduction, and process excellence.

The position is flexible—you may be based from any EMEA PHC manufacturing plant.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead & Optimise Spoilage Reduction:

    • Guide production teams in reducing spoilage across all stages, including leading HFI reduction projects.
    • Develop and monitor KPI-driven initiatives for performance improvement.
  • Process Excellence & Cost Reduction:

    • Collaborate with plants to identify production inefficiencies and propose optimisations.
    • Map operational needs and secure CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) funding for process upgrades.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work with Global Process & Quality teams to implement best practices globally.
    • Advance equipment improvements to enhance efficiency and spoilage reduction.
    • Lead CAPEX projects, defining budgets and executing plans for optimal performance.
  • Strategic Oversight & Analysis:

    • Monitor trends and results, forecasting actions via data-driven insights.
    • Conduct strategic meetings with manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Promote Culture & Best Practices:

    • Champion Safety, Health, Environment (SHE), Quality, and 5S standards within teams.
    • Foster adherence to excellence standards through mentorship.

Key Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related specialism.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in:
    • Spoilage & waste optimisation/reduction projects.
    • Problem-solving activities.
    • Leading x-functional teams & projects.
    • Influencing & coaching x-functional teams in process optimisation & continuous improvement.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Industrial process analysis with systemic approach knowledge.
  • Proficiency in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Strong technical analysis skillset to evaluate and minimise spoilage across production stages.
  • Self-motivated leadership ability to drive cost savings and process efficiencies.

Operational & Interpersonal Capabilities

  • Project management and cross-functional collaboration expertise.

  • Influencing skills to guide non-hierarchical x-functional teams (including suppliers).

  • Best practice sharing experience, both within and beyond the can industry.

  • Operational excellence tool applicability (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis).

  • Out-of-industry best practices knowledge for advanced production automation.

  • Technical Proficiencies:

    • Computer skills (especially for data management & KPI tracking) – knowledge of manufacturing software tools is a plus.
