About CECG:
The Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG) exists to make international climate action more connected, more strategic and more effective.
We bring together philanthropy, policymakers, civil society and other leaders to tackle problems that no single organisation, funder or institution can solve alone. As an independent UK-based charity, we work across organisational, geographic and sector boundaries. We identify gaps, connect people and ideas, build partnerships and direct philanthropic resources towards opportunities for meaningful impact.
Our work is international by design. We believe that effective responses to the climate emergency must reflect a changing global landscape and give greater weight to the perspectives, expertise and leadership of the Global South.
CECG is now expanding its strategic reach beyond the traditional climate architecture. We want to explore where climate intersects with trade, international finance, global security and the institutions and groupings increasingly shaping international cooperation.
That's where this role comes in.
About the role:
We are looking for an exceptional Global Strategy Director to help shape the next phase of CECG's work.
This is a newly created senior leadership position with an unusually broad mandate: to identify emerging opportunities within the international system, build the relationships needed to understand them, and turn those insights into ambitious, practical and fundable global strategies.
We are particularly interested in the spaces beyond the traditional UNFCCC climate process - including international trade, finance, security, the G20/G7, regional institutions and other multilateral and plurilateral groupings.
You might currently work in philanthropy, government, diplomacy, an international institution, business or civil society. You may already work in climate, but you don't necessarily need to. In fact, we are particularly interested in candidates who can bring knowledge, perspectives and senior networks from fields adjacent to the traditional climate ecosystem.

This is a role for someone who understands how international systems actually work: who influences them, where decisions are made, where the gaps and opportunities lie, and how coalitions, funding and strategy can be brought together to create change.
What you'll do:
- Develop new global strategies by identifying and exploring emerging opportunities across multilateral and plurilateral institutions and processes.
- Bring foresight and intelligence into CECG, using your knowledge and networks to identify shifts, risks and opportunities in the international system.
- Build senior relationships and partnerships across governments, international institutions, philanthropy, business, academia and civil society.
- Turn ideas into action, developing clear theories of change, pathways to impact, resource plans and fundable propositions.
- Establish CECG in new international spaces, building our credibility and presence beyond our existing programmatic footprint.
- Lead strategy execution, overseeing programme teams, grant-making portfolios, budgets, monitoring, evaluation and learning.
- Help build the funding base for your strategies, working alongside the CEO and colleagues to cultivate funders and secure the resources required to deliver them.
- Lead and develop a geographically distributed team, creating a high-trust environment in which people are empowered to exercise judgement and deliver.
- Contribute to CECG's overall leadership and direction as a member of our Senior Management Team.
Within your first two years, we expect you to have developed at least two mature, Board-approved global strategies, built a credible pipeline of further opportunities and established a meaningful CECG presence in at least two new international fora or spaces.

What we're looking for:
This is a senior role and we are looking for someone with substantial experience and an established international network.
You will bring:
- Significant strategic leadership experience gained within international policy, diplomacy, philanthropy, government, business or civil society.
- A strong professional track record in multilateral or plurilateral environments beyond the UNFCCC process.
- Established senior networks within areas such as trade, international finance, global security, the G20/G7 or regional institutions and groupings.
- Demonstrable experience of developing and leading strategies that have delivered meaningful impact.
- Strong experience of working in and with the Global South, including established professional networks.
- The credibility and judgement to engage confidently with senior figures across governments, international institutions, philanthropy, business and civil society.
- Excellent strategic thinking, stakeholder management, networking, convening and communication skills.
- A relevant Master's degree or equivalent experience.
Experience of philanthropy, grant-making or grant management would be a significant advantage, as would experience within the international climate field.
Above all, we are looking for someone who brings something new: new expertise, new relationships, new perspectives and new opportunities for impact.
Location and travel:
CECG is headquartered in London, but this is a fully remote, international role and the successful candidate does not need to be based in the UK.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates based in Africa, South-East & East Asia, reflecting both the international focus of the position and CECG's commitment to shifting leadership and decision-making towards the regions in which much of our work takes place.
The position requires approximately 30–40 days of international travel each year. Additional UN language capability would be advantageous.
