Google Cloud Platform Architect
Location: Glasgow – On-site, 5 days per week
Duration: 6 months initially, with potential extension
Start Date: Immediate
Daily Rate: £350–£360 Inside IR35
THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced GCP Architect with strong hands-on software engineering and advanced Kubernetes platform engineering expertise to design, develop and operate secure, scalable cloud-native systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead architectural design and technical decisions for complex cloud-native systems.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and drive coding standards through code reviews.
- Design and build Kubernetes platforms, automation frameworks and resilient services.
- Build and operate highly scalable services deployed to AWS in line with public cloud standards and security/compliance requirements.
- Improve system reliability, performance, observability and operational excellence.
- Produce architecture documentation, including RFCs, ADRs and architecture diagrams.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to cloud platform, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code standards.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of applied production software development experience, with formal software engineering training or certification.
- Advanced hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing and operational stability at scale.
- Strong programming skills in a modern language, with GoLang or Python preferred, including performance optimisation and concurrency.
- Advanced Kubernetes platform engineering experience, including developing and operating custom Operators and CRDs using Kubebuilder, Operator SDK or equivalent.
- Proven experience building Kubernetes control planes and automation frameworks, including reconciliation loops, custom controllers, admission controllers and webhooks.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, API machinery, RBAC, multi-tenancy, observability and production operations.
- In-depth Google Cloud development experience, including architecting, building, deploying and operating production cloud-native solutions.
