Responsibilities
- Manage operational crews involved in the operation and maintenance of wastewater assets, including direct and subcontracted workforces. This includes:
- Ensuring colleagues work safely while carrying out operational and maintenance activities, achieving full compliance with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements
- Ensuring all operational activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. Promote operational environmental awareness within the business. Be seen as an environmental example
- Manage and inspire colleagues to provide excellent customer service, ensuring the business is customer-led
- Act on behalf of Operational Managers as required
- Establish a high-performance culture with appropriate training and implement process improvements fully through investment in new technology or work practices where relevant
- Manage team and individual performance proactively and effectively in line with all current HR policies
- Ensure the public's health is never compromised in carrying out planned/reactive operational activities
- Provide cost management assistance to the area management team to help achieve the department's budget each year
- Manage change across operational teams, create high-performance teams to achieve industry-leading performance
- Monitor and manage area team performance to ensure high-level targets are achieved
- Provide and test appropriate functional backup plans in line with emergency response procedures
- Achieve monthly health and safety unit assessment compliance, providing supporting evidence
- Ensure any operational incidents are managed effectively and in line with company procedures
- Participate in a backup rota
- Be an effective team player, supporting other team members and promoting best practice and standardization to improve business performance
- Develop an effective and motivated workforce ensuring good communication and team work by holding regular team briefing sessions, one-to-ones and performance development reviews
- Adopt a transparent approach for daily operational procedures succeeding in dealing with complex customer problems and assets
- Use the Supplier Relationship Management system to source services and materials to ensure best value is achieved across the business
- Be able to demonstrate good operational knowledge of work equipment and demonstrate an understanding of operation and how to maintain the equipment
- Be able to demonstrate strong leadership and excellent communication skills which will enable you to connect effectively with colleagues, customers, service partners and visitors who come to the sites

Requirements
Essential for the Role:
Qualifications
- Full valid driving license and ability to travel as required by the role
- Relevant engineering qualification BTEC/HNC or equivalent experience
Experience
- Proven supervisory experience including knowledge of the wastewater assets and the ability to demonstrate a proven history of success and performance that leads the sector
- Extensive operational experience
- Experience of managing contractors and developing a team of competent individuals
- Proven track record in exceptional internal and external audit performance
- Experience of managing operational teams, inspiring and motivating teams, implementing successful initiatives, managing change and developing an effective team
Knowledge and Skills
- The ability to think strategically but with a strong focus on ensuring that day-to-day operations are effective and efficient
- Passionate and self-motivated, you will be able to work on your own initiative and be able to demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach to work
- Must be able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills and demonstrate an understanding of the process
- Demonstrating a “can do” attitude and the ability to develop new skills is important. Your development will be well supported, and training will be provided in technical areas when required
- Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and possess excellent communication skills which will enable you to connect effectively with colleagues, customers, service partners and visitors who come to the sites
- The ability to work as a team player that understands the importance of ownership and accountability
- The ability to demonstrate commercial experience in cost management and in achieving operational efficiency and supplier supervision
- Effective communication skills and the ability to turn initiatives and instructions into actions that are fully understood by the team. The ability to deal with external stakeholders in a professional manner that always promotes a positive Dŵr Cymru image
- The ability to develop positive working relationships across the team and the wider organization
- Good knowledge of a wide range of IT systems
