Governance Manager

Location: London – Hybrid – with regular travel to our Birmingham office.

Salary: £49,010 - £56,865 (Basic salary + Location allowance of £4,500)

Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

Opportunity for a governance professional to further expand their experience through providing high-quality support to the General Dental Council’s (GDC) Council, Committees and/or Executive Leadership Team.

About You

As a Governance Manager, you will provide governance advice and secretariat services, including but not limited to:

  • Preparing, briefing, and distributing agendas and background papers.
  • Briefing meeting chairs and others prior to and during meetings with regard to the agenda and procedural issues.
  • Managing meeting logistics.
  • Preparing accurate minutes.
  • Contributing to meeting discussions as and when required.
  • Following up on actions from meetings, ensuring that decisions are communicated and that the progress of actions is monitored.
  • Taking responsibility for at least one area of policy review and administration in the team, for example, gifts and hospitality.
  • Supporting governance improvement and project work such as board-level recruitment, board effectiveness and development and providing governance advice to the organisation.

A key component of this role is working with sensitivity and firmness to manage complex requirements within a busy meeting schedule, whilst remaining calm under pressure. The ability to plan, manage and prioritise a number of work streams simultaneously is key.

You will have a proven track record in arranging and preparing for senior-level meetings, preparing agendas, notes of decisions and papers, and drafting and interpreting governance documents. Excellent written communication skills are essential, as is the confidence and diplomacy to liaise with staff at the most senior levels.
