Join RCOT as a Governance Officer
The Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) is the UK's professional membership body for occupational therapy. As we continue to strengthen and modernise our governance arrangements, we're looking for an experienced Governance Officer to join our Business Enablement and Compliance Directorate and play a key role in turning governance improvement plans into practical, sustainable ways of working.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape how governance operates across RCOT and BAOT during a period of organisational development. Working closely with the Head of Governance and Compliance, you will provide additional operational capacity and resilience to the Governance and Compliance team, leading key governance projects and helping to embed improvements that support effective decision-making, transparency and accountability.
You will:
- lead the operational delivery of AGMs and elections, coordinating activity with colleagues, members and external partners
- implement agreed governance improvements and governance review recommendations
- review and update governance policies and supporting documentation, helping to reduce existing backlogs and establish sustainable review processes
- review and enhance trustee and committee member induction arrangements, guidance and support resources
- improve the quality, accessibility and organisation of governance records, registers and information
- refresh governance content across the intranet and other governance resources, ensuring information is accurate, current and accessible
- develop governance procedures, templates and guidance that improve consistency and strengthen organisational resilience
- support the implementation of governance, risk and contract management processes across the organisation
- draft governance papers, reports, guidance and other documentation for review and approval
- support data protection and information governance activities
- provide officer-level governance support and help embed improvements across boards, committees and governance processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
