Become a Governor with Beacon Multi-Academy Trust
If you care about young people in East London and would like to give something back to your community, we would love you to consider becoming a governor with Beacon Multi-Academy Trust (BMAT).
Governance is a voluntary role, but an important one. Governors help to lead our schools and nursery and make sure every child receives the best possible education.
About BMAT
Beacon Multi-Academy Trust is a medium-sized MAT with over 3,500 students and 460 staff. Our mission is to raise standards in education and ensure that every young person reaches their full potential. Our schools are at the heart of the communities they serve, combining high expectations with high-quality teaching and inclusive practice.
Our Local Governing Body
We recently brought our Local Governing Bodies together into one combined Local Governing Body, the Beacon LGB, which oversees every school in the Trust. Governors see the work of all of our schools and sit alongside community, co-opted, parent and staff governors. We also want our governors to be more involved with Busy Beacons Nursery, so we would especially welcome people with an interest in early years.
- Beal High School is a mixed community comprehensive for students aged 11-18 and one of the largest secondary schools in England, with over 2,700 students (900 of them in the Sixth Form) and an ASD additionally resourced provision. www.bealhighschool.co.uk
- The Forest Academy (TFA) is an 11-16 secondary school with a co-located sixth form and an ASD additionally resourced provision. www.theforestacademy.org
- BBIH is our alternative provision for 12-19 year olds, offering academic and vocational courses. www.bbih.org
- Busy Beacons Nursery is our forest-setting nursery on the Beal High School campus, for babies and young children up to school age.

What you will do
- Champion inclusion, safeguarding and student wellbeing
- Support and challenge school leaders to deliver strong outcomes for students
- Bring your skills, experience and local knowledge to LGB discussions
- Get to know Busy Beacons Nursery and support its work with our youngest children
- Attend four LGB meetings a year, plus school and nursery visits and events where you are available
Who we are looking for
You do not need a background in education to be a great governor. We welcome people from all walks of life and are particularly interested in hearing from those with:

- Strong connections to Redbridge and the local community
- Experience in finance, accountancy or business management
- Experience in human resources or employment law
- Experience in marketing, communications, operations, project management or IT
- Knowledge of special educational needs (SEND) or early years
What we offer
