Job Summary

Working at HM Treasury puts you at the heart of government, making a difference to the UK economy and ultimately to people’s lives right across the UK.

Jobs at the Treasury are fast-paced, fun and can offer unparalleled perspective – not least the opportunity to advise Ministers on the decisions which directly determine the UK’s prosperity. Deep in our DNA is a commitment to empowering our people: maximising individual and collective impact, with interesting work no matter your role or seniority.

Day-to-day you could be supporting Ministers to decide the right level of a specific tax or line of government spending; helping maintain the stability of financial markets; analysing the long-term trends impacting the future of the economy; or enabling this work as part of our vital corporate functions.

We are a high-performing department and proud to have outstanding staff from a wide range of backgrounds. We are also a friendly, inclusive and sociable workplace that prides itself on fostering great team spirit. Our two largest offices are 1 Horse Guards Road in London, opposite St James’ Park, and the Darlington Economic Campus, which also contains eight other departments. We work seamlessly across all our sites, including Norwich, Birmingham and Leeds, as one Treasury.

We are both a 1,000-year-old institution and dynamic, forward-looking economics and finance ministry, with a strong direction set by our organisational strategy, the Future Treasury Vision. The 21st century offers huge opportunities and poses new challenges for the UK. Working at the Treasury is your chance to help the country chart the right course.

Job Description

This role sits within HM Treasury’s Digital Communications team and supports the publication of the department’s documents and announcements on GOV.UK, including major fiscal events such as the Budget.

HM Treasury publishes more than 1,000 documents each year, including some of the government’s most high profile economic announcements. This role offers the opportunity to work at the centre of those publications, helping ensure complex policy documents and announcements are published clearly, accurately and accessibly for a wide public audience.

Working closely with the Senior Content Designer for GOV.UK, you will help manage the end to end publishing process for Treasury documents, ensuring they meet high editorial and accessibility standards.

You will work with policy teams, press officers and other colleagues across the department to plan, edit and publish digital content. The role requires strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple publications in a fast paced and high profile environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver the publication of HM Treasury documents and announcements on GOV.UK, working within departmental publishing standards and guidance set by the Senior Content Designer.
  • Coordinate the digital publishing process for major Treasury publications, including supporting the delivery of fiscal events such as the Budget, managing timelines and working with teams across the department to ensure content is ready for publication.
  • Edit and structure complex documents and web content so they are clear, accessible and suitable for online audiences, ensuring content meets GOV.UK style and accessibility requirements.
  • Work closely with policy teams, press officers and other stakeholders to provide advice on preparing documents for digital publication and navigating the publishing process.
  • Provide day to day advice to colleagues across the department on preparing content for publication and using Treasury publishing templates.
  • Work with the wider digital communications team to coordinate supporting content for GOV.UK, including graphics and other digital outputs linked to key announcements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve publishing processes and accessibility, contributing to the development of departmental guidance and best practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
