Background
The GP Foreman will exhibit a high standard of supervisory and safety behaviour and will ensure that all aspects of shipboard deck maintenance, rigging, slinging, storage, painting and preservation, housekeeping, and general duties are carried out safely and effectively by his team. Delegated tasks will be monitored and controlled formally and effectively.
Authority
The GP Foreman is authorized to lead the GP Operators team in activities described above.

Accountable For: Responsibilities & Standards
Develop And Maintain Effective Working Relationships
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team, colleagues and visitors to the working environment.
- Establish and maintain effective communications with team, colleagues and supervisors.
- Carry out accurate and effective work toolbox talks and handovers.
Conduct Slinging and Rigging Operations
- Perform weight assessments and Risk Assessments prior to lifting awkward loads.
- Check preparation of loads for lifting (Load is secure and stable).
- Use various lifting items (plate clamps, barrel lifters chain hoists etc.).
- Perform bundling and slinging of ‘simple’ and awkward loads.
- Maintain slinging equipment (slings, hooks, webbing plate clamps, barrel lifters chain hoists etc.).

Perform Effective Signaling/Communications
- Direct the movement and placing of loads using appropriate hand and radio communication techniques.
- Rig, sling and position blind load using appropriate hand signals.

Perform Inspections And Maintain Safe Procedures For Helideck Operations
- Inspect Helideck for loose materials, protruding objects.
- Ensure integrity of the Helideck and associated equipment (navaids and landing aids) by conducting checks daily and prior to flight arrivals.
- Ensure personnel on the Helideck are conducted safely to and from the aircraft.
- Stow and remove luggage and freight according to safe working practices.
Contribute to The Health and Safety of the Working Environment
- Work area within your own responsibility is kept clean and free of hazards.
- Positive action is taken to stop hazards and unsafe behaviors.
- Alarms are raised as appropriate and/or acted upon using applied policies and procedures or initiative.
- All potential and actual incidents are reported to the relevant supervisor.
- Record maintenance activities and report defects immediately and effectively.
Monitor And Maintain Pollution Control Measures
- Controlled process or utility discharges from area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits.
- Unplanned discharges are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to Management System guidelines.
- Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are segregated properly and dealt with according to the correct procedure.

- Carry Out Emergency Response role (See Station Bill).

Pre-hire Qualifications And Experience
- STCW Reg. AII/4 mandatory minimum requirements.
- 5 years’ experience in ocean-going vessels of which at least 2 should be served as Bosun on oil tankers (VLCC experience preferred).
- Rigging and Lifting Certified.
- Banksman Slinger Certified.
- Experience in crane operations on mobile offshore units desirable.
- Proficiency in English at a minimum of A2 level according to the CEFR international standard.
- Medically fit according to The Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
