Job Description

About the Position:

We are looking for a capable grader operator with sound experience in road construction and maintenance.

You'll be responsible for operating a grader to construct and maintain road formations, subgrades, pavements, shoulders, batters and drains across the Shire's road network. The role requires working to specified levels, crossfalls, plans and instructions, with strong attention to detail and safety. You'll also operate other civil construction plant and equipment and assist with broader earthworks, drainage and maintenance activities as required.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Operating a grader for road construction, reconstruction and maintenance works
  • Constructing and maintaining road formations to specification and supervisor direction
  • Undertaking pavement preparation, trimming, shaping and maintenance grading
  • Identifying and reporting road defects, drainage issues and unsuitable ground conditions
  • Coordinating with team members regarding water, compaction, material placement and plant movements
  • Conducting daily plant inspections and reporting faults promptly
  • Maintaining accurate records of plant operation, work activities and materials used
  • Working safely around live traffic in accordance with traffic management plans
  • Fostering a cooperative team environment and supporting colleagues where appropriate

About You

Desired Skills and Experience

Our Ideal Candidate Will Be

  • Minimum five years' experience in road construction and plant operation
  • Demonstrated grader operating experience in road construction and maintenance
  • Knowledgeable in road formations, pavement construction, drainage, earthworks and maintenance grading
  • Experienced in operating other civil construction plant and equipment
  • Knowledgeable in plant servicing, daily inspections and basic maintenance requirements
  • Strongly committed to safe work practices and WHS compliance
  • Able to follow plans, levels, crossfalls and instructions accurately
  • Capable of safely operating plant around live traffic
  • Able to work effectively as part of a civil construction and maintenance team
  • Holder of a current HR class driver's licence
  • Current competency/ticket for grader operation
  • Current competencies for loader, dozer or other relevant civil construction plant (or ability to obtain)
  • Holder of a Construction Induction Card (White Card)
