Grader Technician

We are currently recruiting for a motivated and reliable Grader Technician to join an experienced fruit production team based in Chartham, Canterbury.

This is an important operational role, responsible for ensuring fruit grading equipment is correctly set up and operated, production targets are achieved efficiently, and all graded fruit meets the required customer quality and sizing specifications.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining production efficiency, product quality and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out pre-production start-up checks on grading equipment.
  • Set up grading jobs using computer-based systems in line with production plans.
  • Ensure all grader parameters and settings are accurate and correct.
  • Monitor fruit quality, sizing and grading outlets throughout production.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team and adjust settings when required.
  • Ensure the correct fruit is supplied to each grading job.
  • Monitor working practices within the grading area and ensure procedures are followed.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, hygiene, food safety and compliance.
  • Monitor grading efficiency, fruit utilisation, defects and waste.
  • Complete grade-out reports, production records and end-of-day reporting.
  • Carry out regular equipment performance checks, including Magic Eye testing.
  • Report equipment faults or damage promptly to management and the maintenance team.
  • Keep the grading equipment and surrounding work area clean, organised and safe.

What We're Looking For

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Good communication skills and a good standard of English.
  • A good understanding of mathematics.
  • Confidence using computer-based production systems.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to use initiative.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • A strong understanding of product quality, health and safety, and food safety standards.

Previous experience operating fruit grading equipment or working in fruit or food production would be advantageous. However, training may be provided for the right candidate.
