Careers at TCS: It means more
TCS is a purpose-led transformation company, built on belief. We do not just help businesses to transform through technology. We support them in making a meaningful difference to the people and communities they serve - our clients include some of the biggest brands in the UK and worldwide. For you, it means more to make an impact that matters, through challenging projects which demand ambitious innovation and thought leadership.
Learn and work alongside experienced engineers and architects, with hands-on mentoring as you go. Work on data modernisation programmes for Travel, Transport and Airlines based customers. Build tools that use generative AI to convert, modernize, document and test legacy data systems, and deploy them on live client work.
The Role
As a Graduate AI Engineer, you'll help travel and transport organisations move off old data platforms faster and efficiently. You'll use large language models to convert legacy SQL and data pipeline code to modern platforms including AWS, Azure and Snowflake, generate and execute tests and documentation, and build the checks that prove the results are correct.
This is an entry-level role. We don't expect you to know everything below on day one. We expect you to be curious, careful with detail, and keen to learn how AI performs on real engineering work, including where it falls short.
Your responsibilities
- Build and test small AI-assisted tools for code conversion, documentation, data validation and routine engineering tasks, using Python, cloud services and LLM platforms.
- Help turn successful experiments into reusable tools that delivery teams use on client programmes, working alongside senior engineers.
- Write prompts, build test sets and check AI output for accuracy; find where the model gets things wrong and work out how to fix it.
- Study legacy data systems and code with the team to spot work that AI and automation could take on.
- Measure what your tools achieve, such as time saved and errors caught, and demo the results to project teams.
- Join workshops with data engineers, analysts and clients, and turn what you hear into test cases and working prototypes.
- Write clear documentation and test evidence, and follow good engineering practice: version control, testing, peer review, secure coding and careful handling of client and passenger data.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Attention to detail and a habit of checking results, whether from code, data or AI, rather than assuming they're right.
