Whether you’re drawn to Property & Structural Engineering, Infrastructure & Roads, or Water, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians who will support you in developing your technical skills, gaining practical experience and building a career you’re proud of.
You’ll start by getting involved in real projects and developing your skills through hands-on experience. As your confidence grows, so will your responsibility, giving you the opportunity to progress onto larger and more challenging projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you’ll be involved in the design and delivery of a wide variety of projects, working as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
You’ll
- Produce design solutions, drawings, calculations and technical information, supported by experienced engineers and technicians.
- Gain practical experience on smaller projects before progressing to larger and more complex schemes.
- Work across a wide variety of projects and sectors, each with its own challenges, constraints and opportunities to develop your skills.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, clients and other disciplines to develop effective and sustainable solutions.
- Apply engineering principles, industry standards and design guidance to real-world projects.
- Develop your understanding of how different engineering disciplines come together to deliver successful projects.
- Take increasing responsibility for your work as your technical knowledge, confidence and experience develop.
- Contribute to projects that help shape the places where people live, work and travel, supporting sustainable growth and improving communities.

You’ll support the delivery of Civil and Structural Engineering projects by assisting with:
- Structural analysis and design calculations
- Production and checking of technical drawings
- Technical reports and design information
- Applying Eurocodes and British Standards
- Using industry-standard engineering software
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams
You’ll be supported by experienced engineers while developing the technical knowledge and practical understanding needed to progress your career.
🛣️ Infrastructure & Roads
If you’re passionate about how people and places connect, our Infrastructure Roads Team will give you the opportunity to work on highway and infrastructure projects from concept through to delivery.
You’ll Develop Skills In
- Producing 2D highway layouts and 3D models using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Highway design and calculations
- Drainage, signage, pavements and street lighting
- Applying the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and local design standards
- Understanding how the different elements of a highway work together
- Working alongside Geotechnics, Bridge & Civil Structures, Water and Project Management teams
You’ll gain an understanding of how infrastructure is designed to meet the needs of communities, while delivering safe, efficient and sustainable solutions.
💧 Water
If you’re interested in the relationship between engineering, water and the environment, our Water Team offers the opportunity to work on projects that help manage flood risk and create more sustainable places.
You’ll Gain Experience In Areas Including
- Drainage strategies
- Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Flood alleviation design
- River and watercourse realignment and restoration
- Flood risk and planning
- Working with local authorities and other stakeholders
- Using software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Causeway Flow and GIS
You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business and develop both your technical and communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.

You’ll Ideally Have
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline, or be working towards one.
- An interest in one or more of our civil engineering disciplines.
- Some knowledge of AutoCAD or other industry-standard engineering software.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with others.
- A willingness to learn, ask questions and take on new challenges.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to manage your time effectively.
- Ambition to develop your technical and professional skills.
- Previous engineering industry experience, either through work experience, placement or an academic project, would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are keen to learn, willing to contribute and excited about what a career in engineering could look like.
