As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, we have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join our southwest Civil & Structural Engineering Team based in Plymouth.

With a varied work-stream, covering most construction sectors you will have the opportunity to develop and evolve a good understanding of engineering design principles collaborating with chartered engineers and fellow construction professionals. You will have the opportunity to lead elements of design work and to have an active presence on projects to accelerate and enhance your learning.

You will play a key role with delivering innovative solutions for our client's whilst developing and strengthening our engineering team not only within the Plymouth office but throughout the entire discipline within Ridge.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

Responsibilities

  • Report to and take direction from Engineering Discipline Team Leads.
  • Undertake outline, scheme, and detailed engineering designs as appropriate on projects.
  • Carry out detailed design calculations and expand knowledge using latest design software.
  • Ensure calculation packages, drawings, specifications, reports, and other deliverables for projects are to expected quality standards prior to issue.
  • Prepare reports and general correspondence as required in connection with projects.
  • Undertake survey inspections and produce written reports on findings, set out in a logical manner with appropriate recommendations.
  • Liaise with other members of the design and construction teams, both internal and external, representing the Engineering Team.
  • Assist in preparing design programmes for production deliverables.
  • Visiting sites during the construction phase to monitor progress and provide advice to contractors.
  • Ensure that Ridge document management and QA procedures are complied with.
  • When required assist other members and disciplines of the Ridge Team to complete tasks particularly in relation to meeting project deadlines.

  • MEng (Hons) Degree (or BEng (Hons)) in Civil or Structural Engineering at grade 2:1 or higher.
  • A solid foundation of work experience in engineering and/or construction.
  • Collaborative mindset and able to work with minimal supervision and use own initiative.
  • A good basic understanding of the regulatory requirements including Eurocodes.
  • Experience using both Autodesk software packages would be desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, in both written and spoken English.
  • Keen to undertake professional development leading to a professional qualification.
  • Hold a current UK driving licence.
