- Grid connection works – cable route and substation civil
- Hydrogen production and storage
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Projects include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators to private developers.
A typical project example:

AECOM are currently acting as the NEC Project Manager and Owner’s Engineer during the build and commissioning of the site.
- Red John Pumped Storage Hydro – AECOM successfully supported the ILI Group to gain planning permission for the 450MW pumped storage hydro project. AECOM provided EIA, consenting, environmental surveys and engineering support from the early stages of feasibility through to a positive decision by the Scottish Minister.
Here's what you'll do:
- Supporting the delivery of consultancy services on renewable energy engineering projects.
- Providing input into feasibility level studies for renewable energy projects in conjunction with the wider AECOM teams.
- Preparation of technical reports.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
