Location: Wales and North of England

Closing Date: 06/01/2027

The Role

Binnies, part of the RSK Group, is seeking motivated Graduate Civil Site Engineers to join its Delivery team in the North of England and Wales.

The Delivery team is responsible for the successful delivery and management of critical infrastructure projects within the water sector. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent Civil Engineering graduate to develop their practical site-based experience, technical knowledge and professional skills while working towards professional qualification.

Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, you will support the delivery of projects across the UK. The role will involve working on construction sites as well as liaising with clients, design teams, subcontractors and suppliers. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility and a willingness to travel and work across multiple locations are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake site surveys and levelling activities to establish benchmarks and facilitate accurate setting out.
  • Carry out setting out activities, including pipelines, earthworks and structures.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and relevant project information to ensure construction activities are delivered in accordance with design requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, design teams, subcontractors and suppliers to identify and resolve issues and support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Monitor and inspect construction activities to ensure quality standards, specifications and project requirements are met.
  • Prepare and distribute four-week lookahead programmes and provide regular progress updates to the Section Engineer.
  • Assist the project team with the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), along with other project documentation, in accordance with Binnies' Health & Safety and Quality procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date site records, including site diaries, as-built drawings, inspection records and meeting minutes.
  • Support the wider project team in maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle.

About You

This opportunity is ideally suited to a recent Civil Engineering graduate who is looking to gain valuable site-based experience, join an accredited graduate training scheme and develop the skills and competencies required to achieve professional qualification.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering from an ICE-accredited university.
  • Strong academic performance, particularly in STEM subjects and/or Geography.
  • A genuine interest in developing a career within the water, infrastructure and construction sectors.
  • Practical site experience and an understanding of civil engineering construction principles.
  • Experience using surveying equipment, including Total Stations and GPS.
  • Knowledge of CAD or similar engineering design software is desirable.
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A self-motivated, proactive and reliable approach to work.
  • The ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines.
  • A practical, solution-focused approach to identifying and resolving engineering challenges.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work across multiple locations throughout the UK.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
