This role is offered by Crouch Waterfall, a subsidiary of Vulcain Engineering Group.

As part of the Vulcain family, Crouch Waterfall brings decades of specialist experience in Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering to a wide range of UK infrastructure projects. Crouch Waterfall specialise in Bridges, Rail, Infrastructure, Buildings and Geotechnical Services, delivering projects from concept through to completion. Established since 1981, the business has enjoyed continued growth driven by a committed and highly skilled workforce of over 120 employees.

Develop Your Career in Technical Engineering or Project Delivery

Due to continued growth and an increasing workload across our Cardiff office, we are looking to recruit graduates and early-career professionals to join our Civil & Structural Engineering team in Cardiff.

We are recruiting for two graduate-level career pathways, both suited to candidates with an engineering degree and a passion for infrastructure projects.

The Cardiff office has worked on a range of exciting projects, including:

  • Network Rail – including the Western Fabrics Programme at stations such as Exeter St Davids, Stroud, Maidenhead and Penzance, and the Wales Fabrics Programme at Abergavenny, Chester and Llandudno.
  • Transport for Wales – station, building, canopy and structural refurbishment schemes across the Wales rail network.
  • Ponts Mill Viaduct Refurbishment – permanent and temporary works design for strengthening a 150-year-old, 80m-long viaduct
  • Principality Stadium, Cardiff – SCALE Attraction – permanent structural design delivered within a live, high-profile environment.
  • Par Station Access for All – multidisciplinary rail project involving architecture, MEP, telecoms, geotechnics, fire and signalling.

Graduate Civil & Structural Engineer (Technical Pathway)

This pathway is aimed at graduates who enjoy calculations, engineering analysis, design and technical problem-solving. Working alongside experienced Chartered Engineers, you will develop your technical knowledge through real project delivery across bridges, structures, rail and infrastructure projects.

This route is ideal for candidates who want to become highly capable engineers and ultimately work towards professional Chartership. You will be assisting with engineering calculations, technical analysis, reports and design documentation, as well as supporting inspections, surveys, feasibility studies and engineering assessments.

Graduate Project Engineer (Project Delivery Pathway)

This pathway is designed for graduates with a strong engineering background who are interested in the planning, coordination and commercial delivery of engineering projects. You will support project teams with programme management, budgeting, commercial reporting, project planning and stakeholder coordination, while developing a solid understanding of the engineering principles behind the work being delivered. You will be contributing to project planning, scheduling and delivery activities, and assisting with commercial reporting, budgeting and resource planning activities.

Both pathways provide excellent development opportunities, structured mentoring and exposure to major infrastructure projects.

As either a Graduate Civil & Structural Engineer or Graduate Project Engineer, you will gain exposure to:

  • Supporting the delivery of civil and structural engineering projects across infrastructure, rail, bridges and buildings sectors.
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Developing professional knowledge through mentoring and structured career development, including working towards Chartered status.
  • Depending on your chosen pathway, your role may evolve towards either technical engineering specialism or project delivery and commercial management.
  • We appreciate that career aspirations can evolve, and so will continue to work with you to focus on your desired career goals.

What You’ll Bring

  • Graduate or early-career professional with a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline, and a genuine interest in either technical engineering or project delivery.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within collaborative and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ambition to develop professionally and progress your career within engineering consultancy.
  • Placement, internship, industrial year or project experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • An interest in either technical analysis, design and engineering calculations, or project planning, coordination and commercial delivery activities.
  • A desire to pursue either a technical engineering route or project delivery route within a growing consultancy environment.
  • Applicants must have the permanent right to work in the UK and either reside locally to Cardiff or be willing to relocate.
