What is Executive Search?
Executive Search is very high level, strategic recruitment. Search firms headhunt the people who run businesses or have very niche, high-level skills within them. When a company needs a CEO, CFO, or other senior individual, they cannot rely on posting a job advert and hoping the right person applies. They hire Executive Search firms to map the market, identify exceptional talent, and approach high-performing people who are not actively looking for a new role. It is high-level, strategic headhunting with a direct impact on the future of a business and its commercial success.
The role of a graduate consultant is to work with the Executive Teams who recruit for some of the most confidential, highly skilled and niche skill set roles within their sector, to help them identify talent and place sought after candidates into their clients organisations.
To succeed in this role you must be:
- Confident and well presented with gravitas and good energy
- Have a pattern of proactivity and being a self starter
- Have clear personal motivations to build a successful corporate career
- Have exceptional research and analysis skills and high attention to detail
- Able to communicate with stakeholders at any level
- Have excellent academics AND extra curricular achievements
- Confident spending time on the phone and on video with senior people
- A very fast learner able to pick up new concepts quickly
- A strong understanding of what a career in Executive search involves and be able to articulate why it interests you.
- Based in London or within a 1 hour commute
- Able to start in Autumn 2026

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
