Graduate Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Kent is looking for a Graduate Control & Instrumentation Engineer to be based in Woking.
As a Graduate Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer, you will become part of our C&I engineering team, contributing to national and international projects across the oil and gas, energy, renewables, and utilities sectors. You will work alongside experienced engineers and specialists, develop your technical and professional capabilities, and gain exposure to projects from concept development through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

Recruitment Timeline
Shortlisting and pre-screening of applications will commence in early November. Candidates selected to progress to the next stage will be invited to interview, with interviews scheduled to take place from late November to early December 2026.

Hybrid Working
We follow a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work, with a requirement to be in the offices three days a week. This approach supports the development of a strong and effective team dynamic.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, undertaking defined engineering tasks under the guidance and supervision of experienced Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Lead Engineers.
- Contribute to the design and development of Control & Instrumentation systems across different stages of the project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility studies through FEED and detailed design to construction, commissioning, and start-up support.
- Review and develop an understanding of project Basis of Design documents, design philosophies, engineering specifications, client standards, and other relevant technical documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and development of C&I engineering deliverables, including equipment and instrument schedules, datasheets, drawings and diagrams, technical specifications, calculations, and Technical Requisitions.
- Develop an understanding of process operations and the interaction between process systems, field instrumentation, control systems, and safeguarding systems.
- Support the specification and selection of instrumentation, control and automation equipment, ensuring compatibility with the process requirements, overall system architecture, client specifications, and applicable project requirements.
- Gain practical exposure to industrial instrumentation and control technologies, which may include field instrumentation, PLC, DCS, SCADA, ICSS, SIS/ESD and Fire & Gas systems.
- Develop an understanding of industrial communication protocols and technologies such as Modbus, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, OPC/OPC UA and other commonly applied industrial communication standards.
- Develop a fundamental understanding of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, including Ethernet, TCP/IP networking, network architectures, and the principles of industrial cybersecurity.
- Review and provide technical input to engineering deliverables prepared by other members of the project team and contribute to technical discussions and engineering decision-making under appropriate supervision.
- Ensure compliance with Kent’s ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures. including relevant environmental requirements such as ISO 14001.
- Work collaboratively with engineers and other disciplines, developing effective communication, technical documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Apply analytical and structured problem-solving techniques to engineering tasks and contribute innovative ideas and digital solutions where appropriate.
- Develop strong organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage assigned tasks, priorities, and engineering deliverables within agreed schedules.
- Develop effective client and customer-service skills and demonstrate a professional approach when interacting with clients, vendors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Participate fully in and successfully complete the Kent Graduate Development Programme, taking ownership of your continuing professional and technical development.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
- Master’s degree in electrical/Instrument Engineering/Control/Systems/Automation/Robotics - degrees to be accredited by IET.
- Awareness applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes.
- Knowledge of Safety and Quality Procedures and best practice.
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.

- Analytical and problem-solving mind.
- We are looking for candidates who are due to graduate in 2027 or have graduated in the last 2 years.
