Graduate Cyber Security Consultant

Description

Are you a recent graduate interested in building a career in cyber security consulting? Join us as a Graduate Cyber Security Consultant and take on meaningful project work from an early stage, helping you develop both your cyber security expertise and consulting skills.

Actica delivers complex, technology-driven projects primarily within the UK public sector. Our clients include organisations such as the Home Office, Ministry of Defence, Department for Transport, Ministry of Justice, police forces, and the Department for Education.

Our work spans a range of areas including cyber security, technical architecture, programme delivery, digital transformation, and data and AI. As part of our cyber security teams, you will help clients understand and manage cyber risks while supporting the delivery of secure technology-enabled change.

Working alongside experienced consultants, you will receive structured support and mentoring as you develop your skills and build your career.

Key Responsibilities

As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to cyber security consultancy projects that combine technical analysis with business engagement. You will work with stakeholders to help deliver solutions that are effective, secure, and aligned to client requirements.

Typical activities may include:

  • Supporting cyber risk assessments and security reviews
  • Assisting with the development of security strategies, policies, and standards
  • Contributing to security architecture and system design activities
  • Supporting security assurance and accreditation activities
  • Researching emerging cyber threats and security technologies
  • Analysing technical and business information to identify risks and opportunities
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and recommendations for clients
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

We welcome applicants with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, an interest in cyber security and technology, and a desire to solve complex problems.

We value curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients. Our work can be varied and fast-paced, so we look for people who are adaptable, proactive, and comfortable approaching unfamiliar challenges.

You are likely to have:

  • A degree in a STEM, cyber security, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or related discipline
  • A strong interest in cyber security, technology, and digital systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to analyse complex information and develop structured solutions

The following would be beneficial, but are not essential:

  • Exposure to cyber security concepts through academic study, projects, placements, internships, or self-directed learning
  • Awareness of cyber security frameworks, standards, or risk management approaches
  • Experience working on technical projects individually or as part of a team
  • Knowledge of networking, cloud technologies, operating systems, software development, or security tooling
  • Experience presenting information or recommendations to different audiences

Additional Requirements

Eligibility and willingness to obtain UK Government Security Clearance. Find out more information about the Security Clearance (SC) process and requirements here.

Working Arrangements

We offer a hybrid working model, with an office base in Guildford and access to our other locations in London, Swindon, and Cheltenham.

Project needs may involve a mix of:

  • Working from home
  • Time in the office
  • Time on client sites (often 2–3 days per week, though some projects may require more on-site presence)
  • Some roles may involve occasional travel or short stays away from home during the working week.

You will work within a team-based environment, with opportunities to contribute to internal initiatives.
