Reporting to: Civil Section Lead/Senior Civil Engineer
The Graduate Design Engineer will be responsible for producing civil and structural designs and working with other Omexom Engineers in converting these designs into working drawings as part of a wider design team.
The Graduate Design Engineer will provide appropriate levels of civil and structural design to a range of different civil and structural elements as required by the BUGM and their reports.
Will work to own initiative and will be required to supervise other graduates or trainees as experience develops.
To be able to effectively contribute towards packages of work with the potential in the future to lead and manage work packages with design Delivery manager support. Have knowledge of legislation required in this industry and implement it as required.
To be responsible for input into ICE/IStructE training scheme as required.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including But Not Limited To The Following
- Be responsible for the production of detailed civil and structural calculations in accordance with the relevant standards and procedures.
- Undertaking analysis and production of supporting reports, calculations and drawings.
- Design and detailing of foundations including pad and column and pile caps and determining the capacity of existing ‘in-situ’ foundations.
- When necessary, representing Omexom UK within the global Omexom engineering network and ‘clubs’ and promoting the Brand throughout the Industry.
- Understand the basics of British Standards and Eurocodes with regard to civil and structural, design and specification. Understand Loading requirements.
- Produce high quality sketches or CAD drawings to internal and/or customer standards.
- Work closely with other members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions to an agreed design programme.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians from other disciplines, including external consultants where necessary.
- Provide support to CAD staff and trainees in their professional development.
- Ensure thorough checking and accuracy of deliverables.
- Manage and keep records in accordance with company QA procedures.
- Have responsibility for maintaining calculation and drawing records.
- Participate in lessons learnt and knowledge share workshops and share across the organisation and design team.
- Attend in-house design courses and seminars and feedback to the rest of the department if required.
- Keep up to date with ICE/ IET CPD requirements.
- Report to management team as required.
- Excellent team ethic, and ability to work extended hours on occasions when required.
- Represent Omexom – Design in external project technical meetings if required.
- Represent Omexom – Design in external events and site visits if required.
- Develop positive relationships with customers through good professional conduct.
- Review specialist subcontractors/suppliers’ production calculations and drawings for technical compliance with design intent.
- Ability to work accurately and methodically under pressure and strict deadlines, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
- Time and cost management skills to ensure cost effective and accurate delivery.
- Effectively manage own time across multiple tasks and prioritise workload.
- Good communication style and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well within a team of other professionals in delivering designs to satisfy the agreed brief. (e.g: Civil Engineers, OHL, Kelvin Power, Temp works designers)
- Supervision, Technical mentoring and staff development skills.
- Complete Codex timesheets accurately and in good time.
- Enrolled on the Omexom 2 year graduate scheme, working towards engineering council incorporated engineer or chartered engineer competence’s.

Person Specification
Qualifications And Experience
The jobholder shall hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, suitable to be either an Engineering Council (EngC) Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) with relevant Professional Engineering Institutions such as Institution of Civil Engineers and possess:

Competencies
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
- Knowledge of the 2015 CDM Regulations including Principal Designer requirement and namely Regulation 8 and 9
- Knowledge of current UK technical standards and legislation requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of typical construction materials used in the UK such as timber, Concrete, reinforced concrete and its limitations
- An eye for detail when undertaking specific tasks, and the effect of their use/implementation to the wider project. Is the design suitable and constructable?
- High level of proficiency of Microsoft office software
- Engagement and use various design software programs such as AutoCAD, Revit
- An understanding of Document control processes and be familiar with ISO 19650 for BIM.
- Basic proficiency in the use of AutoCad 2D and 3D
- Ability to meet targets in a commercial environment. Able to work to deadlines and can demonstrate previous experience of working under pressure.
- An understanding of financial management and the ability to plan works in a logical and efficient manner.
- Ability to put the customer at the center of decision making.
- Commitment to the highest safety and quality related standards
