The Vacancy

Design solutions that matter. Build your experience. Engineer your future with WGM.

About The Role

WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our Technical & Design team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role will be based in Glasgow and will benefit from hybrid working, alongside travel to project and operational sites as required.

We are open to graduates from Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Mechatronics, Process, Chemical, Control, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering backgrounds.

You will join the discipline most closely aligned to your qualification and technical interests, while gaining exposure to the wider design function and learning how integrated, multi-disciplinary engineering solutions are developed and delivered.

Working alongside experienced designers, engineers, Principal Designers, and project teams, you will contribute to live projects from the outset, supporting design development from initial concept and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and final handover.

Alongside your day-to-day role, you will take part in WGM’s 24-month Graduate Development Programme. The programme combines meaningful project experience with structured technical, professional, and personal development, helping you build confidence, commercial awareness, and the skills needed for a long-term career in design, project engineering, or technical leadership.

WGM Engineering is experiencing significant growth across the UK, delivering critical infrastructure projects across the water, utilities, and infrastructure sectors. As part of RSK Group, we combine the scale and support of a wider group with the practical, hands-on approach of a specialist engineering delivery business.

Our teams work with major clients across regulated environments, delivering safe, sustainable, and high-quality engineering solutions. As we continue to grow, we are focused on strengthening our technical capability and creating opportunities for people to build meaningful, long-term careers with WGM.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the production of discipline-specific engineering designs, drawings, calculations, schedules, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Contributing to projects from early concept and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and handover.
  • Attending project and operational sites to support surveys, inspections, data gathering, and the development of practical design solutions.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across mechanical, electrical, ICA, civil, structural, process, and project delivery disciplines.
  • Supporting design reviews, technical meetings, and the coordination of interfaces between different engineering disciplines.
  • Using 2D and 3D CAD, BIM, modelling, or other relevant engineering software to produce and visualize design deliverables.
  • Considering safety, buildability, sustainability, cost, manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance when developing design solutions.
  • Taking part in structured graduate development workshops, site visits, business exposure activities, regular reviews, and professional development conversations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Mechatronics, Process, Chemical, Control, Instrumentation, Automation Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • A genuine interest in engineering design, multi-disciplinary project delivery, and essential infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, alongside the confidence to ask questions, seek guidance, and contribute ideas.
  • The ability to organize tasks, manage priorities, and work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • A practical, curious, and solutions-focused approach, with a willingness to learn new systems, software, and technical disciplines.
  • A full UK driving licence, or a commitment to obtaining one within an agreed period, alongside flexibility to travel to operational and project sites.

Previous experience gained through a placement, internship, apprenticeship, university project, or site-based role would be helpful, as would awareness of CAD, BIM, engineering drawings, design risk, construction, commissioning, water, or wastewater processes, but these are not essential.
