Company Description:

QPE Ltd is a full-service electronic manufacturing and assembly company specialising in PCB prototyping, assembly, box-build, and testing for low to medium volume production. With origins dating back to the early 1980s and over 40 years of industry experience, QPE delivers full turnkey solutions to the electronic assembly sector. The company combines surface-mount and through-hole technology with a high-integrity, high-tech approach to meet diverse customer requirements across a range of sectors including Defence & Aerospace, Space, Oil & Gas, Instrumentation, Marine research.

What you'll be doing:

You'll be working on a software/AI development project supporting internal business processes. The specific project and its objectives will be explained in full at interview — broadly, you'll be involved in building and testing a web-based application that makes use of AI tools to support day-to-day operations.

Contract & Level:

  • Initial term: 3 months, with the opportunity to extend into follow-on projects
  • Graduate / early-career level — we're looking for someone at the start of their career who already has some hands-on development experience, not a complete beginner
  • On-site, Glenrothes, Fife

Skills & Experience We're Looking For:

  • Solid working knowledge of Python
  • Some practical experience using AI tools/APIs (e.g. Claude, OpenAI, or similar large language models)
  • Experience building or prototyping with tools such as Replit, or similar rapid development platforms
  • Understanding of how web applications work — front end to back end, APIs, and data handling
  • Comfortable working with REST APIs — reading documentation, making calls, handling responses
  • A genuine interest in AI and its practical business applications
  • Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and communicate clearly with the team

Useful but Not Essential:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with databases or business systems (ERP, CRM, or similar)
  • Exposure to manufacturing, engineering, or technical business environments
