Graduate Ecologist
Location: Birchwood, Warrington
Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum
Role: Full-Time | Permanent
Ready to turn your passion for ecology into a career? We're looking for a Graduate Ecologist to join a growing environmental team and start building hands-on experience across a diverse range of ecological projects.
A large part of the work you'll be involved in focuses on restoration, giving you the opportunity to see ecology put into practice rather than simply identifying constraints and producing reports. You'll support projects involving habitat restoration, land regeneration, Biodiversity Net Gain and development, helping to create and enhance habitats that deliver long-term environmental improvements.
You don't need to arrive knowing everything. We're looking for someone with a relevant degree, a genuine interest in ecology and the enthusiasm to learn. You'll work alongside experienced professionals, gaining exposure to both fieldwork and the wider project lifecycle, with the opportunity to take on more responsibility and progress quickly as your experience develops.
What you'll be doing
As a Graduate Ecologist, you'll support ecological work across a varied portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on restoration and regeneration.
- Supporting Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and ecological site assessments
- Assisting with habitat and protected species surveys
- Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and habitat condition surveys
- Getting involved in habitat restoration, creation and enhancement projects
- Supporting the ecological elements of land regeneration and development schemes
- Helping identify ecological constraints and opportunities across project sites
- Supporting the preparation of ecological reports and project documentation
- Working alongside planners, engineers and other technical specialists
- Helping ensure projects meet ecological, planning and legislative requirements
- Developing your technical knowledge through practical fieldwork and project experience

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
