Voltagen Engineering is a UK-based electrical engineering company specialising in low-, medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage power infrastructure. The company delivers turnkey substation and electrical installation services, including design, switchgear installation, protection systems, transformer testing, and commissioning up to 275kV. Voltagen supports projects across the energy, utilities, industrial, and infrastructure sectors, from initial concept through to energisation and operational handover. By combining practical installation expertise with advanced commissioning and protection testing capabilities, Voltagen ensures safe, efficient, and compliant electrical infrastructure. The team works with leading manufacturers and adheres to utility and DNO standards, offering technically demanding power project solutions nationwide in the UK.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Graduate Electrical Engineer role based in the United Kingdom. The Graduate Electrical Engineer will support senior engineers in the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of LV, MV, HV, and EHV substation and power infrastructure projects.   • Assisting with preparation of electrical schematics and drawings
  • Conducting site surveys
  • Supporting protection and commissioning tests
  • Helping to compile technical documentation and reports

The role also involves:

  • Participating in project planning meetings
  • Coordinating with field teams and contractors
  • Ensuring work complies with safety, utility, and DNO standards

The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle, from design through to energisation and operational handover.

Qualifications

  • Possess a relevant technical foundation, such as a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate understanding of power systems, including LV, MV, HV, and EHV concepts, substation components, protection schemes, and basic circuit analysis.
  • Have skills in reading and producing electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and engineering drawings using CAD or similar design tools.
  • Show familiarity with testing and commissioning practices, including use of electrical test instruments and adherence to safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and support fault-finding activities on site.
  • Display effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documentation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Be able to work safely on operational sites, follow risk assessments and method statements, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn, accept mentorship, and travel to various project locations across the UK as required.
