The Opportunity

Join our 2027 (Autumn) Graduate Programme as a Graduate Fire Engineer in our Birmingham office, where you will be part of a market-leading Buildings discipline.

  • You'll join a Fire Engineering team of eight engineers at varying stages of their careers, providing excellent opportunities to learn from experienced professionals and develop your technical skills.
  • The team operates as part of an integrated regional business of more than x professionals across our x offices.
  • We work closely with our Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) and Civil & Structural (C&S) colleagues, delivering a highly collaborative approach on multidisciplinary projects and long-term frameworks. This provides graduates with valuable exposure to a broad range of disciplines, projects, and clients from the outset of their careers.
  • Aligned with the Government Advisory Panel's Authoritative Statement on Fire Engineering, we're committed to developing engineers with a strong understanding of fire engineering first principles and the skills to apply them effectively to real-world challenges.

About The Role

As a Graduate Fire Engineer, you'll support the delivery of fire engineering projects by applying fundamental engineering principles and contributing to technical assessments, reports, and design documentation. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, attend project, design team, and client meetings, and complete project tasks within agreed timescales. You'll also take an active role in developing your technical knowledge and professional skills through mentoring, project experience, and continuous self-learning.

Key Responsibilities Of The Role Are

  • Responsibility for completion of specifically assigned tasks within the time frame specified.
  • Drafting of technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
  • Participation in client meetings, with supervision, and discussion of the application of guidance for simple design scenarios and/or the solution to design challenges. And develop a general understanding of the importance of client relationship management.
  • Identify the relative influence of each of the fire safety provisions they include in a design on the overall risk to the occupants of the building.
  • Expand on the scientific fundamentals of general Fire Safety Engineering topics as well as continue exploring the limitations and vulnerabilities of prescriptive solutions.
  • Develop a general understanding of the project cycles, including the mechanisms by which new work is awarded.

About You

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering degree with modules relating to Fire Safety and Fire Engineering, knowledge of Pyrosim and FDS would be beneficial, and a keen interest in working in the Buildings sector, you'll be:

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.
