The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Geotechnical or Geoenvironmental Engineer in our Belfast office, where you will contribute to ground assessment, geotechnical and geoenvironmental work across a range of infrastructure, water, and community-focused projects.

You will join a friendly and collaborative ground assessment team, applying your skills to real-world challenges and helping deliver high-quality outputs for clients. The team provides geotechnical and geoenvironmental expertise, working within multidisciplinary teams from early design stages through to construction.

Your work will support a varied mix of projects, including water company projects, infrastructure development, site characterisation, and environmental risk assessment. You may contribute to work across water, energy, resources, transmission and distribution, waste and generation, minerals and resources, hydropower, nuclear, and community development projects, depending on project needs.

About The Role

By joining our experienced ground assessment team, you will analyse geotechnical and geoenvironmental properties of the ground and help deliver client reports, including desk studies, ground investigation specifications, ground investigation reports, interpretative reports, and recommendations. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Supporting ground investigations, site characterisation, and the preparation of ground investigation specifications and reports.
  • Assessing geotechnical laboratory data, preparing ground models, and supporting fundamental geotechnical design calculations.
  • Contributing to geotechnical inputs such as foundations, retaining walls, soil and rock slope stability, and earthworks.
  • Reviewing historical maps and environmental information to identify potential sources of contamination.
  • Evaluating soils and groundwater information, supporting environmental risk assessments, and considering sustainable soil reuse or remediation options.
  • Working within experienced multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with technical specialists across Stantec, and developing your technical capability through varied project work.

Your work will help clients understand ground conditions, manage geotechnical and environmental risks, support sustainable material reuse, and develop practical solutions for complex sites.

About You

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Chemistry, with a keen interest in working in the water sector, you will be:

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.
