Introduction
Are you a curious, creative and technically minded engineer excited by the opportunity to develop innovative solutions? Do you have a passion for understanding technology, solving complex problems and turning ideas into real-world products?
Would you like to work on a diverse range of projects spanning the Industrial, Consumer, Energy, Sustainability, Healthcare and Defence sectors?
Successful candidates can join us between May and October 2027. There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
Your role
The Mechanics and Design Department undertakes the development of innovative devices, systems and equipment from concept to manufacture whilst addressing considerable technical and design considerations. We combine user-centred design, innovative mechanical engineering, ‘DfX’ (Design for X, eg. Manufacture, Assembly, Cost etc.) principles, a rigorous systems engineering approach and broad industry experience to form a powerful development team.
Our work ranges from complete product developments from concept to market, through to specialist consulting in technology, strategy, development processes and manufacturing. Projects span mechanical engineering, fluidics and thermal systems, product design, manufacturing engineering, industrialisation and supply chain development.
Some examples of some of our more recent exciting and varied projects we have worked on include:
- UK G’ment: An emergency ventilator for COVID-19 patients, approved by the MHRA and with supply chain secured.
- Accesso Technology Group: Award-winning smart wearable for theme park guests.
- Vinfusion: An app lead personalised wine blending and dispensing device with a touch of theatre.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll be doing
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer with the goals and intent to achieve excellent results within highly demanding industries under commercial and time constraints. You will be using your technical skills to contribute to product development projects with support and guidance from seniors; from initial idea generation through to the delivery and manufacturing support for market ready products. This may include:
- Researching emerging technologies, markets and user needs.
- Taking part in concept generation and problem-solving workshops.
- Evaluating ideas using engineering analysis, simulation tools (including CFD and FEA where appropriate) and experimental evidence.
- Preparing detailed designs from system level through to component level.
- Applying DfX principles including manufacture, assembly, cost, quality and reliability.
- Contributing to the development of manufacturing and industrialisation solutions.
- Manufacturing parts and assemblies, either hands-on or by liaising with suppliers.
- Testing prototypes and designs to ensure they meet client and end-user needs.
- Analysing test data to gain insights into design, system and process performance.
- Supporting products through development, manufacture and launch.
What you can bring
An excellent academic record studying towards, or having completed, a relevant engineering degree
An interest in one or more of the following areas: mechanical engineering, product design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, robotics, CAD, DfX, manufacturing engineering, prototyping or testing.
