The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in our Cardiff office, where you'll be part of a market-leading Buildings discipline.

The Cardiff-based Wales MEP team is a growing multidisciplinary group of over 35 professionals, comprising mechanical, electrical, building performance, BIM and benchmarking specialists, ranging from apprentices and graduates through to Technical Directors and Associate Directors. The team delivers projects across a wide range of sectors including healthcare, education, residential, commercial, industrial, heritage and renewable energy, providing graduates with exposure to a broad variety of project types and technical challenges.

Graduates will work alongside experienced mechanical and electrical engineers, building performance specialists and BIM professionals, supporting the delivery of innovative and sustainable building services solutions from concept design through to construction. The team includes a strong mix of early-career and senior staff, creating an excellent environment for mentoring, training and professional development.

In addition to the Wales team, Stantec has a large, well-established Building Engineering presence across the UK, providing access to a national network of technical experts and specialist disciplines. This enables our teams to collaborate across offices, drawing on expertise from throughout the business to support the delivery of complex and high-profile projects, while also giving graduates opportunities to work with colleagues and clients nationwide.

About The Role

As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer you'll:

  • Support the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, domestic water services and public health systems, across projects from RIBA Stages 1-6.
  • Assist with the production of engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and drawings using industry-standard software, with guidance and mentoring from experienced engineers.
  • Attend design team meetings, site visits and client meetings, gaining exposure to multidisciplinary project delivery and technical coordination.
  • Contribute to the preparation of design deliverables, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, British Standards, Building Regulations and Stantec quality procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, public health, sustainability and BIM specialists to develop coordinated, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Develop your technical, commercial and professional skills through on-the-job learning, structured training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Participate in Stantec's graduate development programme and receive support in working towards professional registration with CIBSE and the Engineering Council.
  • Take ownership of your own development, proactively seeking opportunities to learn from colleagues and contribute to a wide variety of projects across different sectors.

About You

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in BEng Mechanical Engineering or Building Services, a knowledge of Microsoft 365 / Office / AutoCAD and a keen interest in working in the Buildings sector, you'll be:

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.
