Graduate Operations Trainee
Successful operations are often invisible. Information reaches the right person, priorities are understood, records can be trusted and problems are addressed before they interrupt the wider team. The Graduate Operations Trainee programme is for someone who wants to understand how those systems support performance and gradually become capable of coordinating more of them.
Sage welcomes graduates from any discipline. Your degree may have strengthened analysis, organisation, communication, or project work, but it does not need to include the word operations. Evidence from placements, part-time employment, volunteering, societies, or group assignments can be equally valuable when it shows that people could rely on your contribution.
This is a full-time, on-site role following a Monday-to-Friday schedule. The package includes a competitive base salary, negotiable according to relevant experience, plus performance-based incentives. A numerical salary should be confirmed before the LinkedIn compensation field is completed.
Your Day to Day in the Role
Campaign delivery begins with accurate information. You will learn the campaign objective, customer proposition, required standards, and process for recording outcomes. You will check that you understand current instructions and raise uncertainty before it becomes an operational issue.
Early responsibilities may include preparing information, confirming an allocated action, and checking that an update has reached the relevant people. Their purpose is to help the team begin with a consistent plan.
You will also take part in face-to-face customer engagement. This gives you first-hand understanding of how the campaign operates, what customers experience, and where a process may break down. It is an important foundation, but the development pathway extends into coordination, reporting, and improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Coordinated Delivery
Operations require an awareness of how individual actions affect other people. You will learn to prioritise tasks, communicate a problem early, and follow an issue through to a confirmed outcome. When circumstances change, you should establish what is genuinely urgent rather than simply reacting to the loudest request.
As your confidence grows, you may assist with campaign readiness, help organise a briefing, or support colleagues in applying an approved update. You could also gain exposure to scheduling considerations, allocation of campaign resources, and the way managers balance service quality with performance objectives.
You will not begin with authority to manage rotas, approve spending, or direct the work of other people independently. Responsibility increases when you have demonstrated process knowledge, dependable judgement, and consistent personal standards.
Reporting
A report should help someone make a decision. You will maintain accurate activity records, customer outcomes, and notes on issues requiring attention. Written updates must be concise enough to review and detailed enough to explain what happened.
You will become familiar with straightforward measures such as activity, conversion, quality, and completion. Each figure describes a different part of performance. The aim is to understand the relationship between them rather than treating one number as the entire result.
You may contribute factual observations during reviews and see how information is organised for internal or client updates. Further development could provide exposure to basic forecasting and expansion planning.
Measured Improvement
Reviews turn information into action. With guidance, you will identify a specific process or behaviour that could improve, agree on an adjustment, and observe the result. A useful change has a clear purpose and can be reviewed. Constantly changing direction without evidence creates noise rather than progress.

Mistakes should be raised, corrected, and learned from. Hiding an error creates more operational risk than acknowledging it promptly. Good judgement includes understanding which problems you can resolve and which require an experienced or authorised colleague.
Building towards Wider Responsibility
Development may lead to greater involvement in planning, reporting, briefings, onboarding support, and team coordination. You may also learn how recruitment activity, retention, compliance, and resource decisions affect the stability of an operation. Financial commitments, contractual decisions, and formal people management remain with authorised managers unless your role formally changes.
Progress depends on proven performance, readiness, and business need. The programme does not promise an automatic promotion date. It provides the practical evidence needed to be considered for a broader operational remit.
Strong candidates remain organised without losing sight of the objective, communicate concerns early, and respond constructively when feedback identifies something they missed.
Complete the LinkedIn application with your latest CV and intended start date. Describe an occasion when you organised a project, process, or group activity. Explain the risks, how you kept the work moving, and what you would improve if responsible for it again.
