Role Summary
This role offers a meaningful entry point into public children and care law, working directly alongside the Head of Department. The position has become available due to an internal promotion, with the previous paralegal securing a training contract with the firm. It provides a direct path to apply your legal studies to purposeful child-welfare casework, giving you the practical experience and court exposure needed to develop your legal career.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Department and experienced fee earners on child protection and care proceedings, giving you comprehensive exposure to complex legal aid files from day one.
- Draft formal legal documents, including court bundles, briefs to counsel, witness statements and detailed attendance notes, sharpening your technical drafting skills and procedural knowledge.
- Attend court hearings alongside fee earners and instructed counsel, providing you with invaluable courtroom exposure and practical insight into litigation strategy.
- Liaise directly with clients, counsel and public stakeholders across telephone, email and face-to-face meetings, building your professional confidence and sensitive client-care skills.
Requirements
- A degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification, with a demonstrable and genuine commitment to building a career in care or legal aid work.
- Emotional resilience and maturity when handling sensitive and distressing case details involving child welfare and neglect.
- Clear, empathetic communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with vulnerable individuals.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for travel between regional offices, courts and stakeholder meetings.
