About The Role
We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join a professional construction team in Newport.
Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, you will gain practical experience across the full construction project lifecycle, supporting with cost planning, procurement, contract administration, valuations, and financial reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to build a long-term career in Quantity Surveying, with the opportunity to develop your technical and commercial knowledge while working towards professional development and potential RICS accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, project budgets, and cashflow forecasts.
- Support the development and maintenance of project cost plans and financial records.
- Assist with measuring and quantifying construction works.
- Maintain accurate commercial records, cost reports, and project documentation.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Support procurement activities, including preparing tender documentation, obtaining quotations, and evaluating submissions.
- Assist with the administration of construction contracts and consultant appointments.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of contract documentation.
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, and suppliers regarding commercial matters.
- Develop an understanding of construction contract forms, including NEC and JCT.
- Support Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers with the commercial management of construction projects.
- Attend site visits, progress meetings, and project reviews as required.
- Assist with monitoring project performance against cost and programme targets.
- Support the management of variations, change control, and compensation events.
- Assist with project valuations and final accounts.
- Prepare financial reports, cost updates, and expenditure forecasts.
- Assist with identifying emerging commercial risks and maintaining accurate records of project commitments and expenditure.
- Build positive working relationships with contractors, consultants, clients, and internal teams.
- Support meetings, reporting, and communication of commercial information to stakeholders.
- Assist with identifying and monitoring commercial and project risks.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with relevant policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

About You
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- An understanding of Quantity Surveying principles and construction costs.
- An interest in developing knowledge of construction procurement and contract administration.
- An interest in working towards RICS accreditation or a similar professional qualification.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- The ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workloads effectively.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to analyze information and present findings clearly.
- The confidence to build positive working relationships with contractors, consultants, clients, and colleagues.
- A proactive and commercially aware approach.
- A willingness to learn, develop, and build a career within Quantity Surveying.
- Competence using Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365.
- A full UK driving licence, as occasional travel to offices and construction sites may be required.
